IDs for some of today's batch, David.

C1373 - not sure whether it's 7535 or 7539 (perhaps someone else has better eyesight than me!)

If it is 7535 then it is a happy coincidence as I had a ride behind that loco on Saturday at the Spa Valley Scottish Steam celebration.

Good evening, David. That’s a superb set of photo’s of the ECML on Stoke Bank at Swayfield. In particular the last photo’ of Class 55, 55019, Royal Highland Fusilier, on a down express passenger train, in December, 1974, is a most atmospheric shot in the low December sunlight.

The black and white photo’s of Cambridge, Trumpington and South Lynn, are a most excellent and historical selection. JVol3098, at Cambridge south, with B1, 61094, on a passenger service from Cambridge to Kings Cross, in c1948, is a beautifully composed shot of the train.

Very best regards,

Rob.

A rake to utilise all those bargain bin brake and catering vehicles, because everyone knows that the real thing only runs with one brake and one buffet....

30% brakes, 20 % catering, and the roof colours don't match either....

1A28 had a Leeds origin - but it may be that an earlier train in the diagram was formed by a Harrogate portion or that it formed a later, down Harrogate or Halifax splitter (I don't recall the diagrams that long ago, now). That might explain the back end of the train - with the catering vehicles part of the train originating or terminating at Leeds - and the duplication of brake vehicles.

I always found that pesky tree (in your final shot) always seemed to get in the way, when photoing down trains.

The vegetation continues to grow so it is just about impossible to get photos without at least one shrub in the wrong place.

Yes, I do sympathise.  I know just what you mean.  The scourge of modern railway photography, at least in this country.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of the north ramp of the Gotthard route in Switzerland at Amsteg Silenen, on the 8th August, 1988. In particular I like C10452, of Re4/4i, 10004, on an Airolo to Luzern service. A superb composition with the train, station buildings and a mountainous background.

The photo’s from today at at Damdykes level crossing are an excellent selection of today’s railway. The last photo’ of Lumo, 803002, on train, 1S91, the 05.48 Kings Cross to Edinburgh, at 10.08, is an excellent photo’ and you have also captured a plane going over too.

The photo’s of places beginning with an L are a great set. The last photo’ at Low Fell (Gateshead), with a Class 31, on an up train of barrier coaches plus a Mk3, on Monday the 17th February, 1986, is a fantastic shot. It would make a superb train to run on a model railway.

Very best regards,

Rob.

Is it a goods loop? Therefore if there is a train on the Up line the home will be at danger.

If it is part of a four track line then presumably not much freight.

Jonathan

It's part of the four - track section between Peterborough and Stoke summit, no? Iands has seen one with it off, which I must have missed!

A bit further north the four track section become double track through Stoke Tunnel so there would rarely be a clear run for trains on the slow line.  As mentioned I do have a few photos with the distant signal off but I've no idea where they are in this thread!.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic miscellany of photo’s of places beginning with W. The last photo’ at Whaley Bridge, of the Peak Forest tramway canal basin, in April, 1972, is superb. A real gem. Thank you for posting it.

The photo’s from around Ulgham Lane crossing are an excellent set. C6681, of 47426, on an Edinburgh to Newcastle service, on the 3rd January, 1985, is a well composed photo’, and the cab of the 47 is gleaming in the low winter sun.

Very best regards,

Rob.
