Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic selection of photo’s of Yarm without trains and York with trains. In particular I like J3684, at York with 47516, on a Kings Cross to Edinburgh service, in May, 1974. It captures perfectly the grandeur of the station, with the 47 hauled train dwarfed by it.

The Carlisle photo’s are a superb set. C9095, of 87009 and 87004 on an up steel train, on the 1st September, 1987, is a lovely composition of the two electric locomotives.

Very best regards,

Rob.

When I travelled the Furka-Oberalp, circa 1969, the throughout railway was closed every Winter, so a bridge or bridges could be dismantled to avoid avalanche damage. I recall the climb inside a spiral tunnel was novel.

On my first trip abroad, at 17, we had visited Munich, Salzburg, Dubrovnik, Sarajevo and Venice, yet it was coming back up through Switzerland that seeing signs for Andermatt and Hospental suddenly really excited me. They were far more exotic than those more populous and popular places we'd already seen.

I'm guessing, but your wedding car was most likely a Riley RM-series car (of which the RMA and RME had 1.5 litre engines) made 1945-55 - rather than the Riley 'One-Point-Five' (made 1957-65) which is is the example shown in Dave's photo. The RM looks much more like a potential wedding car.

As you suspected it was a Riley RM. It's taken a while but I've finally found a photo of the car without the happy couple spoiling the view.

Carlisle buffet on up platform

This really should be available as a ready-to-plonk building

Good evening, David. That’s a superb selection of photo’s of metre gauge in Switzerland, with the photos taken in and near Andermatt on the Furka Oberalp Bahn (now the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn) in August, 1988. In particular I like the first photo’ of FO Tm2/2, 4973, on the 9th August, 1988. A well composed three quarter shot of the locomotive.

The photo’s of Manors, just north east of Newcastle, and Manors North, plus Hepscott on the Blyth and Tyne, are an excellent set. C8545, at Manors, of 47107, on an up light engine movement, on the 27th May, 1987, is a well composed shot of the 47 passing through the station.

Very best regards,

Rob.

Quite agree - it does rather epitomise the period. Bachmann did produce a station buffet with travellers fare branding some years ago (44-192) but I don’t think that was designed to be under a large station canopy, as I remember them.

Grassington

Your not kidding about the grass at Grassington!  Perhaps the static grass applicator voltage was a bit high :-)

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of the ECML at Barkston and a bit further along at the site of Hougham station. J2085, at Barkston, with a Class 55 on the 15.05 Bradford to Kings Cross, in March, 1970, is an excellent photo’ of the Deltic hauled express.

The photo’s of the Midland Railway with one on the S&C near Appleby and the Grassington branch at Swinden quarry near Cracoe and Grassington, are a superb selection. In particular I like C6250, at Cracoe, of 12083 and another one, in August, 1983, is a fascinating scene, and it will be of use for modellers.

Very best regards,

Rob.

Once again many thanks.  Your eyes must be better than mine - or you have a bigger monitor!

Sorry 35A but J2085 is 9021 not 9019. 9021 had ARGYLL AND SUTHERLAND on the top line and HIGHLANDER on the lower, as in the photo, whereas 9019 had only ROYAL on the top line.

Looks like a long load with runner wagons towards the back - big girders or pipes maybe?

An early version of the Iraqi super gun?

Perhaps pipes for the oilfields are more likely.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of Scottish photo’s. J3844, at Ardrossan, with a DMU, on a Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour service, in July, 1974, is an excellent photo’ and the unit is indeed a Derby Heavyweight class 107.

B

The photo’s of Berwick on Tweed are a superb selection. In particular I like J3701, with a Class 40 on an up oil train, in May, 1974. An excellent shot of the Royal Border Bridge and some houses near it.

Very best regards,

Rob.

Well spotted! I didn't pay enough attention to the nameplate - I was looking at the (former) horn mountings on the roof which, of course, they both had.
