RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted August 17 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 17 While I was out yesterday looking at the Blyth and Tyne I had a look at the signal box and level crossing at Winning, on the freight only line to Cambois and North Blyth. Once again yesterday's photos show the "now" and I have some reasonably close matches for "then". RMweb Gold Market65 Posted August 17 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 17 Good evening, David. That’s an excellent selection of photo’s of The Severn Valley Railway, at Eardington , on the 6th April, 1974. Thank you for posting them in place of what was a duplicate post. GWR Pannier 5764, on a Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade service, makes a lovely sight in C1559. The photo’s with three from Cumbria and three from Northumberland are a fantastic set. The first photo’ at the Bowness site of C R Solway viaduct, in August, 1977, is a lovely and well composed shot, and it is nice seeing your Mum in it. The last photo’ at Cambois, with 37121 running round a brake van, on the 31st December, 1985, is a fantastic composition with the weathered 37, and the snow on the ground having partially thawed. The ‘now’ and ‘then’ photo’s of the signal box and level crossing at Winning, on the freight only line to Cambois and North Blyth, are excellent and show that much has changed. The signal box, for example, now has different windows from earlier times. s BSC_8952 of Winning, on the 16th August, 2024, is a superb photo’ showing how the crossing and box are in the present day, with the last photo’ of 37201, in April, 1983, depicting how things were in the early 1980’s. The black and white photo’s from around Nottingham London Road are a most nostalgic set, and full of atmosphere. The last photo’ at Nottingham London Road Junction, with 4F, 44416, on a passenger train in c1953, being a delightful portrait shot of the 4F. It has clearly had some cleaning of its’s smokebox door. Very best regards, Rob.

That is a huge change. I remember I stopped there almost by chance, I was just driving along, saw the station, parked and walked on to the platform. I think I prefer it as it was then to how it is in the new photo. David

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted August 20 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 20 Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of the ECML at Essendine and Fenham. I particularly like J3693, at Fenham, with Class 45, 98, on an up freightliner, in May, 1974. The photo’s of York, from 1979, and 1983, are excellent and very nostalgic. In particular I like C6302, of a Class 31 on an up freight train, in October, 1983. It shows how the majestic roof dwarfs the 31 and it’s train.
