RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted August 12 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 12 (edited) This afternoon I went to have a look at part of the Blyth and Tyne. The first stop was at Plessey Road crossing, Newsham, Blyth where a Hanson and Hall Class 50, 50008 went b ylight engine from North Blyth Battleship Wharf to Doncaster. Then I had a look at the new station being built at Newsham, by the site of the old South Newsham Crossing. The photos are taken from the new road bridge which opened just over a week ago. Alcanman
Great photos showing progress on the Blyth & Tyne ('Northumberland Line'). Must be the first time a class 50 has been on the line and a shame it was unable to pick up wagons from North Blyth due to the crew not signing the route. Latest information is that commencement of passenger service on the line will be December this year. Looking forward to this as will be 60 years since passenger service was 'axed'. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted August 12 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 12 Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of places beginning with a C. The first photo’ at Cockburnspath, of a Class 40 on an up freightliner, in August, 1977, is a superb composition of the heavyweight 40. That is a fascinating selection of photo’s of part of the Blyth and Tyne, from today, the 12th August, 2024, with the first photo’ at Plessey Road crossing, Newsham, Blyth, and then the new station being built at Newsham, by the site of the old South Newsham Crossing. It is great to see the progress being made. BSC_8929 of Newsham station under construction, looking north, is an excellent view of the station. It’s good that passenger trains will be using it once more in the future from December. The photo’s from around Trent and Meadow Lane crossing, with one at Fiskerton, and also one at Langford, are a superb set. C2499, from Meadow Lane level crossing footbridge, of a Class 45 on a St Pancras to Nottingham express, in October, 1975, is a great shot of a typical Midland express train from the mid Seventies. Very best regards, Rob.

I know some had toilets added but that looks like it could be a complete ensuite! The brick base looks the same era as the lower window infill. If the level crossing is gone I'm guessing the box is for the chop now? PS Is that brick printed paper on the new station lift towers :-)
RMweb Gold DaveF Posted August 13 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 13 It does have a loo in it, I think there is also some equipment in it as the box has taken over the work of several other boxes over the years. According out the county council website about the Northumberland line the bos is not structurally sound so a decision is to be made on what to do and when as the box will no longer be in use. In the photos it does look like brick paper but I think it is real brick, but it seems quite havily patterned. David
RMweb Gold Hroth Posted August 13 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 13 (edited) The new lift towers look as if they're lasercut mdf, painted in a uniform "brick" colour. Lazy, slapdash modelling! Admittedly there are some etched brass detailing and downspouts added to mitigate the appearance. Edited August 13 by Hroth extra! 1

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted August 14 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 14 Good evening, David. That’s a fascinating set of photo’s of Disentis, in Switzerland, in August 1988 and 1990. C14944, of FO, HGe4/4, 101, on the Glacier Express, St Moritz to Zermatt, on the 8th August, 1990, is a superb shot as the train departs from Disentis station. The photo’s of the south end of Dudley, between Cramlington and Newcastle, from today, are an excellent selection. They well capture the present day ECML, a unit railway. s BSC_8942 of LNER 800108, on 1E11, from Aberdeen to Kings Cross at 11.58, is an excellent shot of one the Azumas. The three photo’s from the 1980’s at Dudley are a fascinating comparison, still with some locomotive hauled freight trains. The first photo’ of a class 43 HST on a down express passenger train, at 15.33, on the 31st March, 1986, is a splendid photo’ and is from that time when the liveries were being changed from blue/grey to Intercity. The photo’s of Ratcliffe on Soar on the Midland in the 1970’s are a superb and nostalgic set. The last photo’ of a Class 45 on an up express in January, 1979, is a most atmospheric shot in the freezing cold and snowy conditions.
