Great photos as always - these late 60s/early 70s photos with their transition liveries and such items as telegraph posts and lines are very evocative of the era. In J776, the class 47 is not a namer (I’d like to say it doesn’t have erstwhile GW paraphernalia like those odd lamp brackets but I can’t see - definitely no route classification spot below the number though!!). Could it be D1969 or D1996 or similar? It’s got a shed code at the bottom of the cab side.

Beat me to it. I was going to raise a query on the same ID. D1669 was "PYTHON" and was named on 31st March 1966 at Old Oak Common.

All I'll say about this batch is that they are  from three locations with no particular connection except that I like the photos.

From memory Chalton was the nearest place on the map to where I took the first two photos.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Switzerland on a damp day, the 2nd August, 1988, at Aarau, between Olten and Zürich. C10043, of Re4/4ii, 11123, on a westbound freight train, is a beautifully composed photo’ of the train.

The photo’s of Chalton, Polesworth and Ravensthorpe are a delightful mixture. The last photo’, at Ravensthorpe, with Class 25, D7573, on an up parcels train, in August, 1967, is a superb photograph, which captures a typical parcels train of that time.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

I'm sure that @Stoke West is right about the mirror images. I think that J080 is an Up train on the Up Fast and J081 a Down train on the Down Fast. The clue is the road overbridge, which is on the Up side of the station.

The headcode disc positions on the EE Type 4 doors are also a giveaway. Discs are on the left hand door as viewed from the front.

Here are the two photos together.  Judging by the disc on the door they are now the right way round! (At last)!

My apologies for the confusion.

A particularly nice set of Southern pics, thankyou. The snow reminds me I was covering the SM at Ramsgate for a few weeks that Winter, which was a bit of a commute from my home in Strood.

4-Cor, and other Nelson pics, are inevitably rare among posters here, due to them disappearing more than 50 years ago. ISTR Railway World writing a eulogy at the time, which included the suggestion that they were piloted by a race of one-eyed, one-legged motormen, staring resolutely into the distance, with a parrot on one shoulder…..

Good evening David. That is a superb set of Southern photo’s. J021, at Billingshurst, of 4COR, 3150, on a Victoria to Bognor Regis, Butlins Holiday Camp Express, in September, 1962, is an absolute gem. I especially like that special headboard in pale blue.

The photo’s from around North Wales are a fantastic selection. C26007, at Dolwyddelan, on the 23rd July, 2002, is an excellent photo’, which shows some good detail on that bridge over the railway.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Headcode 40 indicates that the train has run via Sutton and Dorking so presumably it’s a weekend. During the week pathing additional fast trains between the suburban stoppers would I imagine have been challenging.

An abiding memory frorm their time on coastway services from Ore to Brighton was occasional travellers wiggling the brass droplight lock lever in an attempt to open the compartment door, usually accompanied by the droplight falling with a thud. Someone had removed all the brass instruction plates.

C20029  - unmistakably the late Roger Barker (Locomotive Manager) second from left.    I bought my house from him and his brother.

I didn't realised you lived in Rogers House.
