The 21 ton minerals were frequently overloaded by over enthusiastic digger drivers. Is that definitely a spoil train mark?

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 26, 2020 Good afternoon, David. I like the London Tilbury and Southend photo’s which are full of interest. The first photo’, at Laindon, looking east on a strike day in January, 1979, is eerily quiet on a typically freezing cold and snowy day. And what a delightful photo’ of PS Waverley at Southend Pier, on the 1st May, 1978, in C3823. With warmest regards, Rob.
Clagsniffer
Hi Dave, absolutely love the Tyne yard pictures, full of interest! Was interesting to see the Sat Link brake van used on a ballast train of grampus wagons in J10639. Were the sat link vans often used on ballast trains? Also there is a Dutch liveried grampus in the train which is surely vacuum braked, so I’m presuming it’s a mixed train of fitted and unfitted wagons hence the brake vans? Thanks for posting.

RMweb Premium iands Posted March 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 27, 2020 In today's photos from Dave, I wonder if the plank through the hedge and resting on top of the wall adjacent to the signal that 47715 has just passed is a makeshift "access point" used by the person walking towards the camera in the 6ft? 2
RMweb Premium keefer Posted March 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 27, 2020 That pic is also interesting for having 47715 on the spare mk2 p-p set (inc. at least one coach in ScotRail livery)
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 27, 2020 Good afternoon, David. I like the Edinburgh photo’s from August, 1987. All are of interest, and the photo’, J9174, is especially good with such a fantastic view of both the station and Edinburgh itself, which shows how useful the castle will have been in times of war. The first photo’, of Edinburgh Princes Street Gardens, with 101 430, on a Kirkaldy to Edinburgh service, shows a typical hybrid unit, with just the DMSL being a class 101, the other two being class 107. With warmest regards, Rob.
dvdlcs
I was going to say, there was a hybrid 101/107 unit, and you've caught the 101 end - from memory 51803 was the 101 - as the 107 sets were numbered in the 400 series whereas the 101 sets were numbered in the 300 series. Interesting that this end was numbered as 101 rather than 107. The 107s were allocated to Scotland, possibly ED/AY at the time, later HA, with the exception of one trailer car, 59794, which was at BX then later NH. I believe that was eventually reallocated north of the border when Sprinterisation began to happen and Scotland inherited all sorts of stuff from south of the border. Funny what you remember :-) 1

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 28, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 28, 2020 Good afternoon, David. I like the ECML photo’s from Acklington and Buston Barns. All are of such interest, and of relatively happy times without having to worry about a virus either. In J8306, at Acklington, with class 254, HST, on an up express, in June, 1985, you have a beautiful summers day view which looks so good, with the HST powering along the line taking its train load of passengers to London without any real effort. Good spot. From memory on the opposite side there used to be a structure built on top of the wall. I'm sure I read some where it was to allow crew changes possibly pre BR days. Always enjoy seeing photos from Waverley in the mid 80s.

You can Google "Stephenson Museum" and will find their website. The museum is closed due to the virus but is normally open. Not sure about the two coaches.
