Colwick North Western Terrace May 74 J3667

The terrace, as the name implies, was built by the LNWR for it's men based at Colwick.

The LNWR had a loco shed at Colwick, which they called Netherfield and Colwick. It was an eight road shed.  There was a 55 ft turntable near the terrace.  The shed was closed by the LMS in 1928, thereafter ten sets of LMS footplatemen and at least 8 locos were kept at the LNER shed. In the late 1930s the shed was used as a wagon repair shop.

I believe this terrace, shed and turntable can be seen in a 1935 view on the Britainfromabove site # EPW047288

Hi, Dave. You've posted a great set of photo's of Quainton Road. Some fascinating engines and stock to be seen. Then the photo's of the GN line from Grantham to Nottingham are quite nostalgic to me. I love the one of the 25 propelling it's train at Nottingham London Road High Level - so industrial and urban, totally full of atmosphere just waiting to be modelled.

With best regards,

Rob.

Red route availability????  I must have missed something because I always thought they were Blue disc locos ;)

Its my face that's red Mr Stationmaster Sir

Been applying too many red discs to Warships lately - you are of course correct, blue is the colour....

Yes, all transferred to CF May 1971. All previously at HM, though my records show that 6917 was at GD (having moved there from HM in January 1970).

Interesting to see loco reallocations actually taking place.

Must admit Peter, it caused quite a stir that day.

.

Nearly missed them, as we all took a DMU from Cardiff General to Radyr and back, because of a possession at Cardiff Queen St. the train ran via Penarth Curves, Ninian Park and along the freight line past our school.

Nice to see a 309 tucked away in the background at Colchester smashing units pity they cant be resurrected in a modern form perhaps for the Anglia franchise the cabs had a very modern look compared to the other units on the Anglia route and the buffet was most appreciated!

This morning I went for a walk at Northumberlandia, a large earth sculpture of a reclining woman.  She is 100 feet high and a quarter of a mile long.

The climb up to the top of her head gives a good view of the ECML just north of Cramlington station, providing you have  a reasonably long lens.

There is also a good view into the big opencast site just to the west.

Northumberlandia from the south east

I was standing on the highest point, to the left of the centre of the image.

Is the sculpture(?)  near Woodwalton  like it round there but the giant windmills do disfigure the landscape hope not to many going up in the north of the county thanks for the pics.

I can't think of a Woodwalton up here in Northumberland.

Northumberlandia is just outside Cramlington, about 11 miles north of Newcastle.

Super shots on the GE David.

Couldn't resist cropping this one a touch though.......

attachicon.gifpost-5613-0-97272800-1443453405_thumb1.jpg

Hope you don't mind.

PS Wouldn't have known was that sculpture was of, until you enlightened us.

I prefer your crop to the original as a picture.

On here I usually post the full (almost) image as it is often the bits on the edge of the frame that people find interesting!
