shortliner
A friend sent me this today I got up this morning and the car was gone - Hell! half the street is gone! Looks like toy trains, but it's the real thing. The recent wet weather in the American north-east is taking a toll on the rwys.
trisonic
Rte 22 near us was closed last night due to “slippage”...................we had about 3-4inches of rain yesterday. Good really as despite all the snow this winter we were in a 2 inch deficit. Just watched the local news and a 30’ retaining wall has collapsed onto the Hudson Line (old NYC) in Yonkers, Westchester County - though they seem to have one line open (this may change after a more detailed examination after Sun up. Newark had 5” of rain - and it is still raining east of I95 (Thunder Road - to Springsteen fans). Best, Pete.
Talltim
Also see video in guardian article http://www.theguardian.com/world/video/2014/may/01/sinkhole-opens-baltimore-maryland-video It doesn't look like a sink hole to me tho, more like an embankment/retaining wall slip
Glorious NSE
This video of the collapse happenning might help - looks a little like there was an (interestingly linear) sinkhole behind the retaining wall, and as debris fell into that it pushed out the retaining wall? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-27250548

TotalLamer
I transferred in the past few months from Charlotte (Pinoca Yard) to Richmond (Acca Yard) and I can tell you for certain this made a mess of things. Everything coming out of the north was incredibly delayed and plenty of trains heading TO the north were held out due to there being nowhere for them to go.
