BR traction instructor
What a glorious, good to be alive day today. Pleasant back lane walk in the bright Spring sunshine from Silloth to Abbeytown to catch the Wigton bus, then another back lane walk from Cockermouth to Bassenthwaite (with impressive views of Skiddaw) lake to reach a nice pint of cool cider at the Castle Inn hotel and the third bus of the day, back to Wigton. BR traction instructor
Living on The Solway plain amongst a fascinating history that stretches back hundreds of years, this title is providing considerable insight into some of the troubled times that have beset it...ideal reading matter for a squally, windblown Saturday whilst waiting for the weather to clear and a cycling opportunity to present itself. Around 4pm the wind dropped and the sun came out for a lovely 15 mile circuit of the local back lanes. This vivid rainbow added to an otherwise routine composition... RMweb Premium AndyB Posted May 12 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 12 Glorious weather and scenery on the Mid Hants RAT last night. Albeit this bit needs more detail adding by whoever's responsible for the line's backscene! Thanks to one and all at the Mid Hants for a great night out.

rockershovel
Out here in the Fens with a bright blue sky. Clear as a bell, reaching right down to the ground. Porridge, bacon roll and orange juice served by a real English Rose in just about the most isolated Greggs I've ever seen. It doesn't get much better. England's green and pleasant land....

RMweb Gold 4630 Posted July 1 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 1 There are, according to a couple of internet searches, 16 official white horse figures – known as geolyphs, large designs formed on the ground using elements of the landscape - carved into Britain's hills. Here's the one at Osmington, a few miles inland from Weymouth, in Dorset on 26th June 2024. Chapter and verse available on the Historic England/English Heritage website for anyone interested. https://historicengland.org.uk/research/results/reports/6114/OsmingtonWhiteHorseHill-FigureDorset_ARegalRestoration

BR traction instructor
There is little left to tell the tale of Mardale today and what there is lies beneath Haweswater. There was a time when the deceased of the small village were carried in their coffins over the corpse route to Shap village for internment...some miles away over a steep, rugged path. These views are from the corpse route, of Haweswater and Swindale valley, mid way to Shap and the location of lovely flower meadows... RMweb Gold big jim Posted July 24 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24 Went to a wind pump yesterday, I ignorantly thought it was a wind ‘mill’ that made flour, didn’t realise it pumped water from the broads! Hemsby is a lovely little resort, puts me in mind of towyn (Denbighshire) crossed with fairbourne! the place we’re staying is part of the old pontins by the look of it, properly and nicely updated though, we’re in a chalet that looks like it’s 1950s origin, over the road they are clearing part of the old site for housing, the bit being knocked down is very much like the 2 story buildings in Prestatyn, as seen in ‘holiday on the buses’, there are some lovely pics of the site in its heyday in the bar area, which in turn looks to be an art deco building they even had a free firework display last night on the beach off to Great Yarmouth later on
