RMweb Gold 4630 Posted December 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 31, 2019 Day break on the last day of the decade* with Drax Power Station working at what looks like full capacity to keep the heating and lights on on a frosty morning in North Yorkshire. * It would seem that this is subject to some debate - https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/decade.html
jamie.dunn
Timed being at Scarborough castle just right to capture this sunset the other evening. Definitely worth the rather uneven pathway up to castle walls get the shots... RMweb Premium melmerby Posted December 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 31, 2019 (edited) You are lucky getting such a nice sky. Here in Worcestershire we have had 6 days solid of grey, cold, drizzly murk. The weather folk keep telling us about the unusually "mild" weather we are experiencing. The highest temperature in the last 6 days was around 7 degrees yesterday when we saw a couple of hours of weak, watery sun. The overnight temperature dropped to 2 degrees last night. Mild? You've got to be joking. If that's mild I'd like to know what cold is. Edited December 31, 2019 by melmerby

RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted December 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 31, 2019 Last day of the year so we went for a bike ride from Stalybridge to Diggle. Weather good enough for a picnic overlooking the reservoirs above Delph. My normal bike needs a service so it was my trusty old Trek taking the strain today.

In Mid Wales over the past week, we've had a couple of days of drizzle but otherwise it has been bright - Christmas Day and New Years Day (ie today) were great. RMweb Premium 47137 Posted January 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 1, 2020 (edited) New Year's Day at Brockford. We saw patches of sunshine on the drive up through Essex and Suffolk, but the scene here was mist, the natural sort and augmented by the steam. It's become a bit of a habit to visit at New Year, but it's a nice day out and no more steam here until the Spring. - Richard. I'm a member of the Middy, and I've had a letter telling me (in so many words) the railway is strong enough to survive a season without open days. During normal times this place is my bolt hole away from the busy world of Essex, they are saving up to build an extension but I am so glad they have these reserves. I am so lucky to live in a "semi-rural location" - I am about half a mile from a public footpath, the road to get there has no pavement and is usually too dangerous to walk along it, but right now it's a dream. I'll take my camera on my next "daily Boris". - Richard.
RMweb Premium 47137 Posted March 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 30, 2020 Here are some pics from my walk this morning. This is farmland near home, it is cris-crossed by footpaths, permissive paths and private roads. This is not a particularly exciting landscape, but it is very British. Today I saw six other people in the distance (all in pairs, none in groups of more than two!), unheard-of in normal times. This is an entirely arable operation nowadays - there were cows here years ago. A recurring feature is a drainage ditch between fields. I am so fortunate to have this so close to home. - Richard.

Your trees seem a bit tardy this year. Here in Worcestershire most trees have leaves on now although not fully unfurled, so aren't skeletal any more.

It seems, of all the thousands of photos I've taken there isn't anything around here in early April! I'm reluctant to accept anything in Essex as "tardy" (it's a busy place), but for all I know the growth this year might have been slowed by the Easterly winds - they were pretty vicous. This was Sudbury, just over the border into Suffolk, on 20th April 2013: I'll be out and about again, I'm waiting for sunshine to take some new pics. - Richard.
RMweb Premium 47137 Posted April 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2020 A wonderful Spring morning today near the geographical middle of Essex. Here is Nounsley Ford (it's deeper than it looks!), a bridge over the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation, and a distant view of Danbury Hill. Hope these are enjoyed, especially by those currently unable or unwilling to go outdoors. - Richard.

That ford has caught out many an unsuspecting motorist, especially after a lot of rain.

I saw a car go through this morning, a Fiesta I think. The depth gauges are showing 5 inches of water, but the water was over the front bumper of the car. My own car has lowered suspension and never goes near here! - Richard.
