Popular Post Trev52A
Wonderful pictures of the Class 50's on their original stamping grounds. They looked much better then, than they later did 'tarted' up by the Western Region. More pictures of The Class 50's please on the WCML. Davey Here's the first photo I took of a 'D400' - D422 with a southbound express at Carlisle on 1st June 1968. I've also got a few colour shots of them on the WR in the 1970s: 50018+50002 at Plymouth on 7th June 1977 on the up 'Cornish Riviera Ltd' (or should that be 'Cornish Riviera Express'?) Rugd1022
Love the '70s era 50 photos Trevor, a period seldom modelled when it comes to this class, compared to the large logo / NSE era.

Trev52A
Here's a shot with a D400 in it from 1968, so it was fairly new out of the box. RMweb Premium ba14eagle Posted November 4, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 4, 2017 A few slide scans from my collection. April 1989. 50005 rests outside Westbury Panel Signalbox. Much has changed in this view - The cement works is shut and the chimney gone, the wastelands beyond the car park are now covered in housing and the compound, in which the signalbox stands, blooming with buddleia! June 1989. 50017 stands at Waterloo on what is believed to be the 20:38 to Yeovil Jn. August 1989. 50028 & 50048 stand at the east end of Salisbury station with trains for Waterloo. February 1990. 50044 departs Salisbury, for Waterloo.

A chance meeting. A Hymek and a 50 in the same shot is rare! I know of only 2 others, one of them is this one- http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p642814889/h3A7A1B9D#h3a7a1b9d (not mine I hasten to add!- no such luck.) The time frame 'overlap' with Hymeks and 50s on the WR is relatively short, namely October '72 to March '75, but you'd think there would still be more photos of them together. You could almost hear the young spotters- ""can we cab you driver?"" What was 1B55, a Temple Meads service? Hi Gary I've just checked my notebook (should have done that before I uploaded the photo, sorry!) and see that I actually travelled on the train pulled by 50049 from Reading (dep. 1303) to Paignton, where I stayed overnight in a b&b. This was on the second day of an all-line rover ticket. The previous day I had travelled from Paddington to Didcot behind the same 50 - what a swizz! Trevor 50023 was my first one I ever saw in large logo livery! Its very weird looking back now because at the time, this livery looked so loud and striking in amongst all the plain blue! Little did we know at the time how liveries would become so sickly over the next 30 years or so.
