117puzzler
Hi everyone sorry if this post is in the wrong forum or has been asked before but dose anybody know anything about JTLRT's 8 shoe clasp brakes they sell with there BR van kits as although the kit is very very good with loads of detail and is a quick build I am unsure that the brake gear is of BR design. I have had a look through the net and also Paul Bartlett's wagon site but cant seem to find and vans with this type of brake rigging. the closest I can find is a shoc open with LMS clasp VB. hope someone can shine abit of light on the subject. many thanks
brian daniels
What are you stuck on? Is it how it goes together or are you having trouble finding a prototype for it? What van are you building? Here are a couple of pictures of a banana van of theirs with 8 shoe brakes. And a picture of a BR 8 shoes van.
117puzzler
Thanks for the pictures it's good to see that I am putting it together right. The wagon iam building is a shocvan. All the pictures I can find show these wagons with the 8 shoe but of a different design ( ie the same as the slaters conflat) which I think is a BR late design. I was just wanting to know if the ones supplied in the kits are of an earlier design. If this makes sense. Thanks.
Fat Controller
Don't forget that the brakegear is not identical on the two sides with this type of BR 8-shoe gear. Barring one Lot with LNER-style 8-shoe gear, I believe all BR-built Shockvans with 8-shoe braking used this type of brakegear.
brian daniels
These ones on Pauls site might be what you are after but I see these have internal shock absorbers, does the JLTRT one have it like this or are they on the face of the solebars? http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brshocvanvsv/h1548b1a6#h659ebfe Just looked again and found these with outside shocks http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brshocvanvsv/h1548b1a6#hd669625
117puzzler
The underframe in the kit is version with outside springs. Also looks like I will be needing either some oleo or self contained buffers to finish the buffer beams off. Thanks for your replays.
