faulcon1
Here's a video of a modern railway in Australia that gets little to no attention at all and many overseas don't even know it exists. In the terminus at Mt Blue Cow can be seen a wagon which is the rubbish wagon. It's pushed up by the first train in the morning and brought down by the last train in the evening. It's the railways only goods wagon. Between the ski seasons the train doesn't run and that's when major maintenance to the railway and the trains is done. The interior of the train is very spartan but it has to be for there can be no carpets or upholstered seats for they'd only get saturated with melting snow from peoples clothing and ski equipment. The many upright stainless steel pole barriers are to prevent a deathly crush if the train should happen to stop suddenly. The verandah and steps at the front are for people to escape the train should it stop in the Perisher tunnel section there being no room to alight from the side doors. The Perisher tunnel was cut by a tunnel boring machine and the tunnel from Perisher to Mt Blue Cow was dynamited due to a different geology. The maximum gradient is 12% or 1 in 8.
