However that scenario is unlikely. But as a part of our railway history/heritage it would be nice to see a model completely retooled to modern standards with decent motors, lights and tilting mechanism. It was done for the Blue Pullman and that has proved a superb model so never say never. Also it would be good to see the original HST prototype or indeed the gas turbine HST. andyman7 Posted February 17, 2014 Share Posted February 17, 2014 Hornby scrapped the moulds for the APT probably 25 odd years ago. Tooling for models is rarely deliberately disposed of although it can become damaged. Hornby are very good with their tooling archive though and I would expect that the moulds are all in store. You may recall that before Bachmann reissued the Blue Pullman, Simon Kohler of Hornby was quoted as having said that Hornby had checked and assessed the tooling for the Tri-ang Blue Pullman, which was last used 40 years ago! They put two eurostar motors inside and it goes like a rocket. I think the model is actually quite reasonable given it's age. Was glazing flush fitted as standard on this? maybe the lightest of weathering applied to the lower half.......and a driver figure in the cab. The folk that believe AC electric locos dont sell are unlikely to change their thinking on a retooled high speed AC express multiple unit.......... Yes, it used the Hornby technique of the time of moulding the glazed part in clear plastic and mask spraying the body colour around the windows. I found the old APT motor coach used to struggle over today's points because of the wider flanges. So from that regard the Olivia's treatment works very well. They do also offer to add directional lighting and even sound if you're into that. Whilst I agree with your statement I think it'as highly unlikely that the APT will ever be produced as a RTR model again. The real thing was only in service for a short time and would really come under a specialist category. I do think (and hope) we will see more EMUs such as the electrostars but I doubt APT would even come into consideration. Maybe start with a 6 car set and sell additional coaches to those that want them. I'd definitely be in for a set. Yes and No, the articulated ends of the Hornby coaches each had their own half bogie - one axle. Electrostar Posted February 22, 2014 Share Posted February 22, 2014 I think Hornby's Eurostar includes separate carriages and going back many years i remember Lima and Jouef etc selling separate TGV carriages.
