yorkie_pudd
Thanks again CK for the pictorial information given showing what has been completed and whats still to do etc. one thing evident is the state of the containers shape wise but yet paint looks crystal sharp on them, to say the poundings they have taken to save more damage happening and aid to defend all new build.
brianusa
Up the line at the Warren, the BBC states that the Environmental Agency will spend 10M to repair beaches, groynes, etc, by 2017. They certainly were expensive storms!! Brian.
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted June 25, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 25, 2014 I am surprised at how well the containers have withstood the battering that the sea has given them. Did the Cap'n have time for an ice cream and a paddle?
Granitechops
Someone has been busy sweeping part of the seawall walk. And it wasn't Network Rail or First Great Western or Teignbridge Council or Devon County Council or Dawlish Town council ( or whatever they are called these days) or The Environment Agency or any of their contractors The shingle has been there since the FEBRUARY STORMS Thousands have walked down there in the last 4 MONTHS & for people unsteady on their feet, & with sticks & for parents with kiddies in buggies & people in Wheelchairs its been a real struggle Now its probably not a priority for any of the above BUT this is the INTERESTED public some who have travelled long distances just to look And its their money thats being spent ( it doesnt matter which pot the expenditure is currenly coming out of, it ALL will come out of the PUBLIC pocket eventually, directly or indirectly
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted June 25, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) Question for the Capn the boring sampler by the containers Station end is that a 4"/100 mm cutting bit? I'm sorry Don, I don't know the answer to that, I only 'play at being an engineer', I'm an operator by profession, but I can ask next time I'm there. What exactly are they boring to find/not find? Keith They are sampling the ground under the low-level walkway, so that they can arrive at the best method of fixing the huge 'L' shaped reinforced concrete sections that are being manufacturered up country at the moment. These will form the basis of the new, raised section of walkway. Did the Cap'n have time for an ice cream and a paddle? Sadly, no, didn't have time for a paddle. Re the ice cream, I can neither confirm nor deny that a clotted cream & vanilla (or some other flavour, or not) may or may not have been consumed, at Dawlish on that day, or elsewhere on another day... RMweb Premium brushman47544 Posted June 25, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the latest photos, CK. Doesn't that new fencing landside along the sea wall spoil the view. Edited June 25, 2014 by brushman47544
lmsforever
A spoiled view that means the hillside wont slide onto the railway is worth it ,the work being carried out is magnificent and the scale is amazing when its all done the line will be secure for years to come ,well done lads. RMweb Premium Reorte Posted June 25, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 25, 2014 Thanks for the latest photos, CK. Doesn't that new fencing landside along the sea wall spoil the view. The ones up against the cliff? Who's looking out of the train on that side anyway? From the beach it'll probably just look like any other bit of retaining wall once it's been there for a while. Even I can't find too much to grumble about there

Got the Google Ad preferences page when I clicked on and it says, based on my you tube activity, I am interested in ads for hair care products, hygiene & beauty products, south asian music, surf & swim and watersports!!! What? Google need to refine their analytical program if that's what they think No wonder we get targeted with so much crap, good job I have two different ad-block programs running and rarely see much advertising. Granitechops
The boring machine that was seen yesterday on the Dawlish Beach live webcan, infact stayed on the wall overnight, jacked up off its tracks While I was down there this morning, the moving crew came to collect it apparently it just fits between the back wall & the upright pillars supporting the platform overhang Unfortunatly I had to leave before they moved it must weigh less than 1.5 tonnes as I passed their pickup truck, complete with ramps as I drove off and NO this is not Dawlish Lawn this is Coryton Cove after the rough seas yesterday ripped up seaweed off the seabed in the distance over by the little breakwater the seaweed is 1foot ( 25cms) thick at least As security has now been down graded & only one man is on duty art each point at Old Lifeboat House Rockstone foot bridge & the lane leading down to Smugglers they have been told to be "more Visible" over at Boat Cove a crew are drilling into the breakwater masonry ready to insert steel pins deep in which have not yet arrived The sea must have been pretty rough as the walkway from the Viaduct to Boat Cove was littered with seaweed And some shingle Edited June 27, 2014 by Granitechops
Granitechops
The slipway to the beach turning left (north) under the viaduct at Dawlish (town) Station 19th April 2014, with a 2 step drop off of about 2-3 feet and this morning 28 June top step covered, old sewer pipe nearly dissapeared looks hard enough to drive on going back to the Geophysical core sample boring machine thee was not much clearance especially as every so often there is a WIDER stanchion forcing the vehicle to almost touch the wall pictorial evidence
hayfield
Granitechops Does your chair turn into one of these bathing machines once its on the sand, so you can have a quick dip in the mornings? On a more serious note, thanks for keeping us updated on the way things are getting back to normal. Nature does seem to have a way in healing its self, and over time breaks up what man puts in its way. Granitechops
There is an unfinished section of 20-30 foot parapet/seawall just there, where the steel reinforcing is already done Just finish the shuttering, & mix & pour I would think that far piece of gear looks like a generator though Edited June 30, 2014 by Granitechops
Granitechops
The new pointwork components seen on Friday were fitted Sat night & photoed on Sunday On the under side of the steps of Rockstone footbridge there is a 'bricked' up archway possibly a plate-layers refuge? How many places can you get close up to trains with no barriers obstructing the view?? ( in this country) 153370 leading
