Granitechops
It amazes me that Dawlish advertise this as a wonderful Blue Flag beach yet the tide, seemingly never goes out! Is there another beach they are referring to? Best, Pete. Depends what time of day you have been looking and the angle of the web cam means you rarely see the tide when its mostly right out in other words you rarely see the top half of the beach at all because of the height of the sea wall related to the height of the camera itself Tommorow, Friday low tide is 08.06 & 20.42 British summer time but the tides are neap tommorrow so they dont go very far in or out but this is a shot of some of the beach on Dawlish sea front towards the Old Lifeboat house looking North

surfsup
They look like PCSOs or maybe the young one on the left is and the other is a Constable showing him the patch? Probably they are just have a mooch on a beautiful day which is probably a lot more enjoyable than being in town on a Sunday morning about 12.30 a.m. P Off topic but PCSOs wear Blue Wicking Shirts, whilst PCs wear Black Wicking Shirts now (with sleeve sizes depending on how elite you are {in joke!}), with the exception of the Met who I believe still use the old white shirts and clip on tie. trisonic
Unfortunately still does not look a great beach... Two hours later and most of the groyne is under water again. I’ve been enjoying the cloudscapes. How many freight trains pass each day - do you know, Keith? Best, Pete.
Rob F
I suspect that there is less beach at the moment because the sand levels are so low. I have said in a previous post that the sand levels are at least 6 feet lower than they were when I stayed on Sea Lawn Terrace in the late 80s. This difference in vertical depth will translate to a large change in the horizontal extent of the beach at low tide. ROB
lightengine
You need Weston or Sarf End for a bigger tidal range, more beach (and mud)

I’ve been enjoying the cloudscapes. How many freight trains pass each day - do you know, Keith? Best, Pete. Hi Pete, If you go to this website and enter Dawlish in the location box it gives real time info on all trains passing/stopping at Dawlish http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced Select the time frame you require "Around Now" or pick any time span you want Passenger trains usually have a format such as 1A00 (Expresses), 2F66 (Stopping Trains) etc. ECS is typically 5X00 format IIRC Specials can have different number prefixes Freight trains are somewhat more variable such as 654L etc. (not many in a day) Cheers Keith
