RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 18, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 18, 2014 Someone is obviously into classic British sports cars. Jamie Yes, he is, I know the gentleman concerned. I guess the orange army are having the week end off? Yes, very likely to be the case, it also gives the residents a bit of a rest, and as you can see, a roadway has been restored now, albeit not yet metalled. Apologies if it's already been mentioned, but security guy by sea wall entrance in Teignmouth said another 6-8 weeks before public access returns. Damage is more fundamental in places than thought - he said a digger fell 3m into a previously unknown cavity (well they all are until you find 'em) a few days ago. This is the case, as I have tried to allude to earlier, public access to certain areas is unfortunately still blocked off, albeit for very good reasons. The Project Team are very much aware of the need to reopen more of the walkway and beach areas as soon as practicable to do so.
60026to
6 to 8 weeks is alright by me. Our next sorte on Dawlish will probably be early July as it will be nice to work up a thirst from Dawlish Warren to Dawlish on foot.

hayfield
Only a few weeks ago this sight was just one big hole, and minds were working on a solution. Now whilst not quite finished its a great testament to what can be done when there is a will to do it. I would imagine that the Capitan and his worthy crew can look at this sight with great pride. A big well done to all those involved from right up to the top down to the humble pasty van vendors and not forgetting the big red spidery thing

RMweb Premium kevinlms Posted April 19, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 19, 2014 (edited) The latest picture shows just how amazing is the job done by the men and women in orange ,I wonder what Brunel would have said ? Where's the vacuum pipe gone? Edit to add more.. 'I see the track is now double throughout'! 'I like that big red spidery thing'! My apologies for posting to such an old post (relatively speaking), I hadn't realised that I hadn't checked this thread lately and found myself waaaay behind. Page 77 of 125 - arrrgh. lightengine
Nah - trying a new venue for the Brighton Speed Trials! Oldudders, Way back many years ago I saw a guy, John Hall I think, driving at the Brighton speed trials in a Capri with an extended bonnet with a Rolls Royce radiator grill. Years later I read that it had burnt out whilst he was driving it. LE

Granitechops
Notice in the last photo that the new track has been weathered before being put in place. Once in place I guess it then re-weathers to a much lesser degree. (perhaps we tend to weather tracks too much) Of course rails were left in the 4 foot for weeks towards Dawlish Warren in all the rain, sand blasting, storms & salty seawater I am sure those in Teigmouth 4 foot were in reach of the wind blown sand & moistures Edit part of the 'reweathering' is I suppose due to the application of grease spread from the automatic lubricators found on this coastal stretch on tightish curves Edited April 19, 2014 by Granitechops
