lmsforever
The rebuilding work at the landslip is amazing the rebuild is to a fantastic quality looking at the track, the fencing ,the wall its going to last for a hundred years. Thanks to the captain for the photos, insights, and general information with humour(oops that will upset someone) he deserves a lifetime supply of pasties .Wish I could be on a train Friday as it will be quite a day but unfortunately I live a long way a way. This thread has to be one of the best ever following what was a disaster becoming a triumph by all departments cooperating and coming up with innovative ideas and ending up with some thing that is definitely an improvement on what went before. Can I ask if the staff transport vehicle could visit a few preserved lines as it would be fun to travel on it?
RJS1977
You must be 'umpty-twiddly 7' years old too, to remember that... I was actually born about a week after the final episode first aired, but have heard most of the episodes via BBC Radio 4 Extra and a colleague who has all the CDs! RJS1977
And nor do I or the TRUST system, for that matter! - not on 4th April, anyway. I believe the first steam train over the wall (makes it sound like a jail break!) is on Thursday 10th April.

RJS1977
As to the nature of this thread,it reminds me a little of Test Match Special - ball by ball commentary on what's happening, with plenty of witty banter imbetween. Highlandman
As always fantastic pictures CK and many thanks for keeping us up to date with what is happening. Where the land slips have been are the grey posts for new fencing or are you installing stone signals as at Pass of Brander alongside Loch Awe in Scotland? If slips are becoming more common along this stretch of line would this type of signal be a viable safety addition? Keep up the great work. Granitechops
So, this vehicle, is it a one off built specially for landslip/falling rocks protection? only it reminds me of the mine vehicles down at Morwhellham basically a mesh cage to protect from falling rocks & in the mine context to protect hands etc from accidentally catching on close rocky walls & pit props as well Looks like a Transit conversion

RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 3, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 3, 2014 For those who missed it last night, 'The One Show' had two pieces from our local 'Inside Out' reporter (Sam Smith who is one the better TV journalists) showing some unseen film in TV quality. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03zcvjw/The_One_Show_02_04_2014/ 11.50 and 48.20 minutes in.

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 3, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 3, 2014 So, this vehicle, is it a one off built specially for landslip/falling rocks protection? Don't think so, actually, as it was in use in the Whiteball blockade as well, but at the Tiverton Jct relaying site, not even in the tunnel! CK walking his sheep through Dawlish after his investiture with the Freedom of the Borough. 275px-Paternoster_Square_-_Statue_of_Man_driving_Sheep_-_London_-_240404.jpeg Some people might think that fellow looks like me, I could not possibly comment... Pete 75C
Sometimes the functional vehicles are the funkiest. We use a similar "people-mover" at some locations in the RNLI so the boat crews don't have to get their feet wet. Bless. I certainly think the mobile cage (above) would make a terrific model, but might be a little tricky to motorize? Bachmann, are you listening?
