I wonder where peco got their diamensions for this.

If it was a Ratio kit originally then whoever tooled it at Ratio went and measured one.  If Peco tooled it they might have done the same (is it in 'Concrete Nouveau'  does anybody know?).

Thanks Mike; yes I have. The Ratio Kit is based on the SR Drawings for Concrete Nouveau. ratio os part of the peco family but production remains at Buckfastleigh I think it is. I wouldn't be surprised if Parkside didn't get made there now as well.

Top photo, N gauge DMU with a small Peco bridge behind it. A Derby 3 car Suburban, first batch with four lights (a class 116 for our younger viewers)

 

Bottom one is sign for the Gentleman's Lavatory. A BRCW 3 car suburban unit with the middle car taken out  (a class 118). It differs from a Press Steel (class 117) unit in having the two lights under the windscreens (117 had them fitted later in life) and a flat top to is headcode box. 

 

Edit I have had a second squint at the top one, it is still a class 116 but like the other photo has had its middle coach nicked.

I thought that bottom one was a 118, no clue why, but one has to celebrate these small sucesses!

Most 118 s were allocated to Plymouth or Bristol where as 117 in the early days were used by people wishing to have their nose in a good book or to shed off their dry skin.*

Merco buckets matey. Both on the Seaton Branch you see, circa 1964/5. Available in any form RTR?

Actually, Clive, the 118s were a bit nomadic in their early years and there was a significant presence of them at Reading.  Yes, I know that the humble dmu is regarded with not a little scorn by some readers of this thread but surely they are as entitled as the mighty kettle to be referred to accurately.

I think Plymouth had those as their first DMUs circa 1959. They made a very satisfying farting exhaust sound IIRC. Took over the Saltash trains and also  local branches that survived.

If these are 118s, then they might be close enough to the 117s that Bachmann are going to produce, I believe?
