RMweb Premium newbryford Posted November 14, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 14, 2021 I forgot that I had a plan to add a crossover..... When Derby station was remodelled a couple of years ago, a trailing crossover was added on the Long Eaton side of the existing facing crossover at Way and Works Junction. It's much easier for me to add it on the Derby side (Rule 1 applies!). Whilst it won't get used too much, it'll add a bit of extra interest. I'll also add the double signal gantry to add a bit of height to that area of the layout. The points have just been placed for an idea of where they go and the pen is the approximate position of the gantry. The position of the gantry will allow a bit more train to be visible when stopped at the peg.
RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted November 22, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 22, 2021 The extension is progressing well. The main line trailing crossover is now in place, along with the extension of roads 12/13 - also including a crossover. This will add a bit extra to the operation and the extension will allow "visible" stabling of 2+5 NMT (must crack on with it). Next up will be the extension of roads 9-11. My current preferred method of tracklaying is PVA glue every 3-4 sleeper and weighing the track down for 24 hours. I use 12mm MDF rectangles cut slightly larger than a convenient weight (a brick). MDF is used as it is a very flat surface to spread the weight.

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted December 19, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 19, 2021 Due to the domestic authorities being absent for a few days, the kitchen has been commandeered for tracklaying of the new middle fiddle yard board to take place. Hopefully, it'll be finished in the next couple of days.

RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted December 29, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 29, 2021 Two days short of 8 years since this thread started.... The first extension (before I got too far with the build) was to change it to a roundy-roundy. And allow more trains to run. The second extension was to increase the width/capacity of the fiddle yard to allow more trains to run. This third extension allows yet more trains. in the fiddle yard and round the front. The scenic section is now taking shape beyond a flat board. The two buildings will be representations of Road 19 and Derby PSB. Road 19 (it will be Road 9 on DL) pic from my collection - used with permission. And a flickr pic of the signal box. 21 1
