The Bigbee Line
I wonder if Adolf had a train set.... That would have been fun..... At least there would have been no debate about P4 etc. It would have been ".....nice train Mein Fuhrer......."

Potentially high;ly offensive to many (probably the vast majority) who do model railways using RTR 'stuff'. Err no. The inference was that he had to have a bigger train set than everyone else and so went out and bought everything in the shop - quantity rather than quality. That would be 34.48mm gauge for his favourite prototype. Bernard
APOLLO
Joe Stalin had a "model" railway also, 1:1 scale, over 400 miles long. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18116112 Bad, hard times back then. Lets hope they don't return. Brit15
Fat Controller
It's easy, google; copy; paste! I did it on my phone ( although actually, accented characters are easier to get on an iPhone than a PC!) alfsboy
Didnt the "wily Hun" plan a super wide gauge rail system for the Ostbahn to enable travel to their recently and as it turned out temporarily acquired eastern lands ?. i saw some sketches once of huge super streamlined steam locos. I am waiting for it to reappear as a modern proposal .
RMweb Premium pete_mcfarlane Posted October 20, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2013 Luckily Hitler didn't understand track gauges. Certainly not the difficulties of invading a country with 5' gauge railways when all yours are built to 4'8.5", and you don't have any decent lorries.

RMweb Premium SM42 Posted October 20, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2013 Apparently Adolf Galland used his fame as a fighter pilot to have a model railway set up in his quarters. Seems the Luftwaffe were quite keen on model trains. Andy

Andy Good practice .My Fathers trains got regularly straffed at during the Battle of Britain by fighters ,probably not wanting to bring back any ammo .Dad was a fireman on the Southern .He was also shot at by tip and run FW190's at Dover ,the so called tip and run fighters hated by one and all .Dover was dodgy place to be in the war . Horsetan
.... .Dover was a dodgy place to be in the war . It still is in peacetime.....so I'm told. I thought legal visits to the detention centre on the Citadel were bad enough.
RMweb Gold 46444 Posted October 20, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 20, 2013 The link to website on the initial post by OTBL shows a particularly dodgy picture of Goering in full Luftwaffe flying attire. Kind of reminded me of this: About 2.18 mins in to the video. Cheers, Mark

mow
I don't suppose that Goering had a model of a Wagon Lits Carriage like this one in his collection. http://www.royalmunsterfusiliers.org/l5railwg.htm Though I gather than Hitler did add it to his 1:1 railway. 69843
I'm fascinated by the bombing of the toy trains idea. As a byline, anyone got a model of Sir Ralph Wedgewood, B16 #925 and York roundhouse circa. 28th/29th April 1942?
