(Similar to the centrally fitted ones to some class 86/87) 47523 Diggle 120783 47523 was later fitted with a blanking plate over the lamp and a standard centrally mounted one. Grizz
Plus a sequence of 47 812 heading to Eastbourne one summer's evening. C126 this has bought back some great memories of 'real trains' in Sussex. My folks lived just north of Lewes, with a panoramic view of the line at Hamsey bank. This train used to leave Eastbourne on Saturdays and if the right driver was on board, they used to give it a big handful to climb out of Lewes and up the bank. Occasionally if the 47 was a little unwell it looked like a steam loco with the clag streaming out. Shame that the Virgin 'Project Voyager' destroyed all that. Then the government allow them to stop running to Sussex.......so ended real trains. Great photos, thanks you.
RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted October 20, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2018 A couple taken in the dying days of the Waterloo - Exeter loco hauled services; I guess in about late 1992/early 1993. Pushing out a little cloud of exhaust 47712 pulls out of Clapham with a Waterloo-bound train. 47583 heads an ecs into the carriage sidings at Clapham. At the other end was 47704. 47583 had detached from the front and parked up beside 704. Note the brand new Networker stabled beside. Note also the brand new 159 lurking ominously in the background. These were on test at the time. This is the last time I saw locos on these services.

eastwestdivide
Chinley 1984, I think it's 47189, with what looks like the return empties of the Manchester/Cleethorpes newspaper train: 47602 Glorious Devon beside the seaside, but not in Devon, at Seascale with a short TPO in 1987: InterCity loco with Network SouthEast coaches somewhere near Banbury (signal BN52 if that helps) in 1987: PW work at Goring in 1986 with 47282:

eastwestdivide
That looks like 47620 Windsor Castle in the photo near Banbury That intercity 47 near banbury looks like 47620/47835 Looking closely at the full-resolution scan of the slide, the nameplate could easily be Windsor Castle. There's also a small red badge/crest or something below the nameplate, but I can't see a number anywhere. I'll have my notes somewhere, but not to hand at the moment. Looking at the previous and subsequent slides, I think it's near Aynho Junction. Edited November 18, 2018 by eastwestdivide

RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted November 18, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 18, 2018 Any idea of a location for 47 446 and its tankers, please? I have a vague recollection that it's at Newton Abbot, at the North end of the station, where a branch leads off to the left. Could be completely wrong though !! Cheers, Phil.
