eastwestdivide
Lines in the landscape/cityscape/waterscape? An unidentified 66 crossing the creek at Strood, on today's 1125 Allington (near Maidstone) to Whatley Quarry. Must go back with a proper camera when the tide's out and the creek is properly muddy and strewn with shopping trolleys. Rochester Cathedral is in the background, while the castle is behind the loco's side grille, and sort-of visible in reflection in the water:

It's not on railway property; it's just outside the boundary, so I guess it's just some sort of outbuilding associated with the properties along Helm Lane that are a short distance from the line. Unfortunately the embankment at that point beyond the Network Rail boundary is heavily wooded and the hut/lodge is not visible on Google Maps, as this link hopefully shows; Helm Lane, Mirfield Next time I'm there, which won't be in the next couple of days based on the local weather forecast, I'll see if I can provide more information. 1

I think it's in the garden of 3 Helm Lane. eastwestdivide
Trying a couple of "over the rooftops" shots today in Rotherham... the light was good, but I wonder if the photos are just too 'busy' like that. Think the 2nd one works better. Not had many sunny days in this part of West Yorkshire recently. 1

Thanks for the kind comment, it was difficult to keep ones balance while taking that photo with the heath covering the uneven ground. The end result shows the North Norfolk Coast with Weybourne peeking through, with 76084 charging up kelling heath bank with the 'Aspergers Flyer' headboard on the 19th August 2015. RMweb Premium Reorte Posted June 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 27, 2020 (edited) I found this whilst having a rummage around recently, Crianlarich in (IIRC) 1996 or 1997 (I knew I had the photo somewhere but I've not been able to find it before!). Apologies for the finger over the corner of the picture (I suppose I should've edited that out). Edited June 27, 2020 by Reorte

RMweb Gold Popular Post Ramblin Rich Posted July 12, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 12, 2020 (edited) The Okehampton Military Target tramway At the end of May, when travelling was permitted, we took an evening walk up Row Tor on Dartmoor to find the remaining evidence of the military target tramway near Okehampton. This was built around 1942 and used until the 1970s but still surprisingly intact. The basic layout is 2 balloon loops with sprung points, with a run off siding into a shed / bunker. The 'train' consisted of a low level powered Wickham trolley named Captain towing wagons with targets; once set running, it would continuously run at slow speed back & forth and around each loop until stopped manually, while the gunnery crews shot at the target. The tracks run in a shallow trench to protect the powered car and there is an earth bank alongside presumably to absorb any shells or bullets. There was a short sequence in a BBC program a few years ago when Dick Strawbridge accompanied by a military officer opened the shed to find Captain still in situ. The shed, straight section & eastern loop are easy seen on the Google satellite view https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.7020287,-3.9926886,546m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en&authuser=0 The shed - apologies for the lens flare N beside the west loop N & P beside the points to the shed Point lever intact but disconnected from tracks The advantage of a mobile phone, I could poke it through a gap in the doors, Captain is just visible to the left. The straight section Sprung points at entrance to east loop The east loop Looking back to the straight section. Definitely fits the 'Lines in the landscape' description!
