DecoderPro is your friend.

I have found that turning off BEMF can improve the running of some decoder / loco combinations so its worth a trY and yes Decoder Pro is definitley worth learning to use.

Is that a physical thing or a program to download?

Here is the  link for the shareware software

https://www.jmri.org/

It requires Java but it shows you where to get the relevant software.

You will also require an interface between your PC and DCC system although many have that built in these days.

It can take a little getting used to and the set up doesnt always go smoothly but its something that I now use all the time for many different decoders and also for layout track plans on screen to control turnouts signals etc. I have been using it on Banbury and Santa Barbara for years.

It can also do automation but that is tirckeir to set up than many commercial packages and I havent yet gone this far with it.

I’ve done nothing to the layout or any further fiddling with the Hastings DEMU  for the past week or so because we’ve been on holiday again!

Lisbon this time….so a few trams, funicular trams metro and trains travelled on. The famous tram route no28 started more or less outside our hotel.

After a long wait the ODC Mk5 Ford Cortina and Mk3 Ford Capri are available. I’ll post some pictures later. The wheels are a big improvement on the tractor tyres fitted to the Mk3 Cortina….and many others.

I may well do….this was intended to be Terrys Capri from Minder…although I think he started with a Mk1….ill have to check.
Mk1 Fiesta and Mk2 Escort yet to come from ODC….along with a second colour for all four Fords.

Great that ODC are now doing 70s and 80s bog standard cars. But I wonder what happened to the reason ODC used to give for not doing popular cars, and Fords in particular, that they couldn't get permission from the manufacturer (or it was too expensive).

Hornby have a good license for Ford as the Vanguards range is almost entirely Ford but the ODC announcement for these four n gauge cars predates the Hornby takeover. It would be good if the ODC British Leyland range was shrunk down too. Princess, Allegro saloon, Austin 1100/1300, Metro, Maxi, Landcrab, Maestro, Montego,….even the Triumph 2000 and Rover 2000, SD1 etc.

Yorkshire area NGS meeting today. Got a little bit done on the second FS ferry van…..I’m now down to my last eight etched ventilators so will have to bite the bullet and make a mould to do some more in resin. My sound fitted class 31 had a run out with a train of TTA tanks.
The last of my Atlantean to Metrobus conversions had its finally spray paint added for the destination blinds and grill….just needs t some varnish before making up the windows and doors for spraying. The red has been applied over white undercoat which I used for the top deck….the other two buses are red on grey primer…..big difference.

With the Olympics fast approaching I got asked to do / volunteered to do the groundwork for the shop window display. As always the trusty PECO Pigs will be at the forefront.

Not much modelling done this week for myself….but the shop has benefited.

The Olympigs set went into the shop window today with the Pole vaulter added. I’ve also made my first Airfix kit in probably 35 years…. a BAE Hawk for a Red Arrows display.

So today I’ve made a start on moulding some more Ferry van vents. The mould box is just some scraps of 40 thou plasticard. The original etches have been superglued to 5thou plastic as a backing and then mounted in the box with double sided tape to stop them moving.

12 hours later I might have a silicon mould to poor the resin in.

Be careful what you wish for...

The Shannon is a terrific piece of marine engineering. I had a look round the one at Hastings in May.

I've got a couple of old whitemetal lifeboat kits that were made for the RNLI by a firm called D&M, in about the 70s I think. One of those - haven't decided which - will become the Pentowan lifeboat in due course.

The Shannon is a brand new kit for Airfix. We have a set of decals for every ship at work. It’ll probably end up as the Whitby one.

Well the silicon mould has been released. I’m not sure there is enough depth to cast anything. I’ll give it a go tomorrow. If it’s unsuccessful I’ll have to beef up the vents to make them thicker. I can always sand the thickness off.

Hi

i went with a 0.010” (0.25mm) backing. It’s also worth making a blank to put on top as a weight when you fill it with resin.

Cheers

Paul
