Nelson Jackson
Hello everyone, Whilst I'm working away on commissions etc, I thought some of you might like to see what dad has been up to, he's just recently finished this O gauge Parkside Dundas 20/21 ton hopper an is now building a second one. Thanks, Nelson

Nelson Jackson
Hello everyone, Sorry for not updating this thread sooner but I have been kept busy and rarely find the time to write updates such as these ones. The first project I managed to complete was this Caledonian Railway wagon, which with the help from Londontram, I was able to accurately paint and letter it. Now it just needs a running number which Londontram has also helped me to source. So many thanks to him. I didn't follow the ratio method of fixing the bogies because I felt It need something a bit more free moving and reliable so I've used 8ba nuts and bolts. The result works very well. I added some real iron ore which helped to hide the metal weights below. Something a bit random but I had fun making it.
Nelson Jackson
With the Cultra show fast approaching, I wasn't able to build my own NER P7 hoppers unfortunately, however I was relatively lucky to find this trio on eBay which I have tidied up, added a coal load and added metal wheels along with couplings. Nelson Jackson
My most recent work that has been done on the workbench was this commission which involved me having to re-letter/re-number, add details along with lamps, and figures to three Bachmann engines. I thoroughly enjoyed this because they are all freelance locomotives which allowed me to get creative and add my own touches to them. Because I had other projects on the go I thought I would be sensible to keep all of the screws somewhere safe and prevent them getting mixed up with other bits and bobs. So I did this. Here are the finished locomotives and I hope the owner is as pleased with them as I am. Nelson Edited November 10, 2016 by Nelson Jackson
Spitfire2865
Any better pictures of that bogie open? Thats from the Ratio kit isnt it? Wouldnt mind doing one of those in G3, but Id have to find the works drawings. The locos look great as well.
Nelson Jackson
Sorry Trevor, I completely forgot about your comment until I seen the pics on my old phone, hopefully these are good enough for you, it also gave me a chance to test out my new camera haha. Nelson Edit: I still need to add the running number, if anyone was wondering. Edited December 30, 2016 by Nelson Jackson

A very good paint job if I may say so. Thanks Moxy

A very good paint job if I may say so. Thanks Moxy Thanks Moxy, however just to clarify, the maroon was already present on the L&Y tanks. This is how they come from Bachmann, I only had to remove the numbering and add the lettering.
RMweb Premium Moxy Posted December 30, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 30, 2016 I had forgotten Bachmann had done an LMS maroon version of that, I still like them as NCC locos though! Regards Moxy
RMweb Premium Dave John Posted December 30, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 30, 2016 Some very nice modelling. With regard to the CR Bogie wagon, its No. 72000. There only was one built to test the idea in 1899, and it remained unique. The later CR bogie wagons were of all steel construction, built almost a decade later. There is a thread on the CRA forum and good photos in "The True Line" No. 68. I don't know why Ratio chose to make of a kit of it, I suspect it may be due to there being a drawing of it on the cover of "Historic wagon drawings" by F.J.Roche.

Nelson Jackson
Hello everyone, I thought I would just share my latest project that I started a few weekends ago, it's a BCDR brake van of 1800's design. This came about just from a sudden urge of modelling which meant I had to make my own W irons, which is good because it allowed me to practise more with my piercing saw and soldering iron. I have also made a start on the sides last night. I have no idea when this will be finished as it is just ticking over in the background, but that doesn't bother me as I do like to take my time haha. The chassis as it is, is already fairly heavy but I will still be adding weights onto the inside later on. I have no idea what livery to paint this in once it's finished because they did see action with the UTA, albeit for a short time. But I'm thinking a BCDR livery would be a nice contrast. Thanks, Nelson
RMweb Premium Northroader Posted February 3, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2017 Hi, Nelson. Looking at your brake van chassis I'm thinking you'll have trouble when you put it on the tracks, six wheelers are total *******! Steve's (Londontram) site is good for looking at chassis construction, as there's need to give flexibility around the centre axle, both side and up and down. I see you were asking him about it some time ago, if you follow through from there you should get a good idea of what's needed.http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/78165-steves-caledonian-coaches-wagon-work-bench/page-
RMweb Premium Northroader Posted February 4, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 4, 2017 Thinking about it, another way you might like to experiment with is if you join the centre axleguard set with one of the outer ones, using a brass strip down the middle, and a hole drilled midway, so as you've got a small bogie. The other end axleguard stays as it is, but it might need some packing under it to keep everything level. Then if you've got a bit of space around so as it's clear of the solebar and the floor, with a limited amount of movement to rotate and tilt, hopefully the chassis will track well and stay on the road. Good luck with it.
Nelson Jackson
Hello Northroader, I appreciate the help and advice, but to be honest, the simplest way I can see it, is to just remove the flanges on the centre wheel and lift the axle slightly. It does look a little unsightly and the wheel may not rotate all the time but it does allow me to run it over point work and round 3rd radius curves no problem at all. Nelson Jackson
Hello Everyone, Just a quick update to show how far I have got with the BCDR brake can. Currently it happily clips onto the chassis and I am happy with how it's progressing. Yes I forgot to paint the inside of the duckets but don't worry I'll drill behind them and paint from there. Glazing for them will be done with glue and glaze. Unfortunetly my desk lamp has broke so I will need to obtain a new one when funds allow it, but that means that I can't model during the nights which is unfortunate. Thanks, Nelson

Nelson Jackson
Hello everyone, I thought I would share with you all how far my BCDR brake van has progressed and as can be seen from the photo I would say that I am half way through, there is still a lot more work to do, but thankfully Easter is here so that means two weeks off school. The body and chassis are still separate and probably won't be joined together until just before painting. Thanks for looking! Nelson.
Glover
That panelling is superb Nelson. Believe me, that is the benefit of being young and having steady hands! Glover
Nelson Jackson
Hello everyone, Firstly thank you to Glover for your kind words above, much appreciated. I could waffle a bit about why it's taken me so long to do some actual modelling but that would be boring and quite repetitive I would assume, so instead looking to the positives I have just this evening completed this LNER Quint D Bogie Bolster wagon from Cambrian. And what a different experience it was! I have never until this kit ever made anything similar and I have to say the whole built was quite satisfying. I could have utilised some brass stanctions, brake gear etc... But decided not to and just go with the kits examples. I think it turned out quite well. I even managed to weigh down the thing quite well so it runs quite happily the way I want it to. Now I've just got to paint it and add 3 link couplings. Thanks, Nelson
RMweb Gold 57xx Posted July 29, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 29, 2017 I like the Quint D, Nelson. I have one of these on my list to buy so good to hear it is nice to build.
gobbler
Hello Everyone, Sorry for the lack of updates this past week(s), I had taken a whole week off modelling and forums etc... To clear my head and get me focused for the beginning of school, but now I've settled in I can get back to finishing off the NCC wagon, but in the meantime I've built and finished this Panzer 3 Ausf B, and started on 2 more completely scratch built wagons, more info about these in later updates. I have also bought a brand new Hornby fowler for a great price on eBay a couple of days ago and when I've finished off the current and started projects then I will begin on making a LMS NCC WT Class Jeep. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Take care folks, Nelson Nelson My second favourite modelling subject is AFV's (armoured fighting vehicles) and this fine model is a StuG III the ausf (mark) is correct though. Just as a side note an excellent thread. Love your superb wagons and brilliant weathering. Here's a 1/35th Infantry tank my III Valentine. It's in the middle of being weathered so about 95% done. Keep up the very professional looking work. Scott
Nelson Jackson
Hello all, I believe this is the first completed modelling piece of 2018, I started it at the Bangor show, and now it's finally done apart from couplings (screw) and transfers. The shade of brown is often debated upon, so I've just based mine off a photo in and used various shades of brown. Thanks, Nelson
leslie10646
As always, coming from you, Nelson, a masterpiece! It was an education to watch you start the kit at Bangor - serious preparation before the super glue came out! Well done. Leslie
