ess1uk
Why have I only just found this thread? must find some of mine (because I can’t get into the main group for prototypes) shame most of the pictures have disappeared Edited December 29, 2022 by ess1uk
RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted January 7, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) A couple of scans from 2008 of a pair of Fertis class 56s stored at Eastleigh. 56115 and 56117 await their fate. Interestingly their fate was a little brighter then imagined at the time and both went out to Hungary, where I understand they are both still in service (although that could be outdated information). RMweb Gold franciswilliamwebb Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 18, 2023 As we've woken up to snow this morning, I can't resist digging out this oldie but goldie. Somewhere in there is 56080, trapped by fallen trees in the cutting at Streetly on 22/01/88. This will be 35 years ago this coming Sunday, although I won't get a day off work this time around!
RMweb Gold rodent279 Posted January 21, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 21, 2023 Since 56081 seems to be "grid of the moment", I'd better add my own photo of it. Here it is with fellow sometime MGR stalwart 20048, oozing late 70's glam, at Bridgnorth during the SVR diesel gala, 2nd October 2022. 56098 was present as well, but sat at Kidder all day Sunday.

RMweb Premium Steadfast Posted February 19, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 19, 2023 A nice surprise walking into Acton, a triangle of lights and a bassy throb carrying on the breeze could only mean one thing...a 56. DCR's 56091 had 18 wagons with it, being loaded with HS2 spoil. From Acton the train would run to Wembley, then on to Chaddesden Sidings in Derby the next day, both as 6Z46. The ultimate destination was Burton-upon-Trent, running as 6Z47 from Derby. Samsung S10 on Night Mode. Amazing what a phone camera can deliver. CWJ
Most of my railway photos were taken before it became fashionable to bring 56s out of retirement for main line work, but here are a few: 56097 arrives at Brush Traction, Loughborough, on 17th November 2004 after being privately purchased for restoration. Several years and a lot of elbow grease later, the same loco was looking superb on its first test run at the Great Central Railway (North), Ruddington on 20th September 2008. 56311 rumbles though York with a southbound scrap metal train on 18th May 2012. I had forgotten this livery ever existed, let alone that I'd photographed it. 56312 repeats the rumbling-through-York-with-scrap-train routine on 17th April 2012, but sporting promotional graphics for the forthcoming Railfest event at the National Railway Museum. Cheers, Will 14
