Popular Post westernfan
A man got onto a bus with both front pockets of his trousers full of golf balls and sat down next to a beautiful blonde. The puzzled blond kept looking at him and his bulging pockets. Finally, after many glances from her he said, "It's golf balls." The blonde continued to look at him, thinking deeply about what he had just said. Finally, unable to contain her curiosity any longer, she said, "Does it hurt as much as tennis elbow?"

Most wine sold in pubs came in casks and later in plastic gallon containers. It was only when wine bars started to spring up everywhere that bottled wine became a thing. Don't people remember wine on draft (usually Liebfraumilch)? BTW the government don't do surveys. YouGov is nothing whatsoever to do with the government. It's a company that conducts surveys for advertisers and lobbying groups and should be treated with caution. So for 98% of people reacting one way or another to a survey means that a lot of people have filled in that survey after being directed to it by a Facebook or Twitter campaign. Dave Gorman did an episode on YouGov. Worth a watch as it shows how pointless they are.

Maybe not surveys, but they do do consultations here’s the one I mentioned https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/choice-on-units-of-measurement-markings-and-sales/outcome/choice-on-units-of-measurement-consultation-response and a screenshot from it showing the 98.7% happy to keep metric measure nothing to do with yougov. The largest number is for the status quo, and there's a lot of imperial in that (propose chanigng all road signs to kilometres and see how far that gets you, even among those odd people who insist on measuring their height in metres). All it really says is that people don't like change, a sentiment I can usually get fully behind.

Having done this, and seen how appreciative the Army was of the information, the group thought that the US Navy might find the information useful as well, so sent them a copy of their results. This was returned with a note saying that, since the Navy calculated in nautical miles, the information as presented was useless and would remain so unless ranges could be calculated in nautical miles. The computing group did send a new set of information with ranges in nautical miles - and maximum heights of trajectory in negative fathoms! 2 1

Demeter wasn't functioning. Did you hear about the war between Greece and Turkey? The Turks were lobbing hand grenades; the Greeks were pulling the pins and throwing them back.
