As a ruler of England, Denmark and Norway, Cnut had to travel around a lot.

While he was near to us (in England) he was the "near-king Cnut".

While he was far away (in Denmark and Norway) he was the "far-king Cnut".

It sounds like a minus added to a minus is a plus which proves you can eat your cake and have it!

Almost so, but...   a Minus added{?} to by another Minus results in a larger Minus {hence the oft quoted "Plus" }.  Kwasi seems to have found that out with a practical demonstration.

The rhetoric certainly seemed to centre on giving more out of the treasury and bringing less in - which would, apparently bring increases to the gov't income.  Perhaps he confused that with, multiplying by Plus and Minus results in Minus, but Minus times Minus gives a positive.

Perhaps it goes some way to explain the difference in approach to the current financial problems faced {as a result of natural disasters, climate and Putin behaviour} - of a person with a PhD in Economics Theory and persons who run big businesses.

KK has a PhD in Economic History.  Surprising, therefore, that he didn't notice an absence of historic examples of trickle down economics working.  His thesis was on the Great Recoinage of 1696.  An(other) example of economic failure.

I wonder if future undergraduates will have his example of how not to construct and announce a budget included in their BA syllabus?

Thank you for the wonderful correction to the qualification, which was reported elsewhere.  The details are a delight [or should that be a massive disappointment that someone should imagine that to be a relevant qualification for the job...]  🤣

Thank you again...  perfect.

It gets funnier.  I have been sent this today.  (Sorry it's a bit out of focus.)
