You should have seen the 3 rail versus 2 rail "discussions" of the 1940's makes the OO/EM/P4 version tame by comparison!

What about Clockwork.   A windup   if ever there was.

A few years ago there was a similar discussion on one of the US model train forums that I am on. I got so fed up with the squabbling that I said t'l with all of you, I am going four-rail and posted a photo of somewhere on the London subway system that uses such a system. That caused a major hiccup in the postings. :jester: A few were speechless! :yahoo_mini: I suspect some were so narrow-minded that they did not even know that London had subways! :biggrin_mini:

It does. To cross under roads.

Not counting the overpriced sandwich shop.

London also has the tube.

What about the US  concept of the "elevated subway"  (eg Chicago)

This goes back to the 70s and you can still find it on tea-towels today.

Excellent, thanks! :D

Someone was inspired by that to write an extended version.

Quote

The abbreviated rules of cricket.

You have two teams of 11 players in each team.

One out in the field and one in, but only two players are in, the rest are out of the field. Each player that's in the side that's in goes out, in turn, and when the player is out they comes in and the next player goes in until they are out.

When the bowler is running in, some of the players who are not in will start walking in. Then they walk out again. The players who are in run in between the stumps, except if one is run out. If they run into each other, they'll probably be out as well. If a player who's in runs in between the stumps hundreds of times, that's called outstanding, especially if they stays in, unless they are standing in for someone who's out.

When they player is out, the players who are out run in to whoever got the player out. Then another player is in, until the side that is in is out of players who can be in. When they are all out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.

Sometimes you get players still in and not out, if they are in and out of time, or out of light in the ground. Then it's time to go in.

When both sides have been in and out including the not outs, or you are out of time to play in, that's the end of the game. Then they all go in for tea and cake, until the tea or the cake's run out.

AKA The Dockers Umbrella.

It claimed to be the first Electric Overhead Railway in the World!

Wilfully dismantled in 1956

You can tell that painting is pre 1919 as something is in it that disappeared then.

New Brighton Tower

I was going to mention that...

Its in the big O!

Pity that they demolished New Brighton Pier too.

(I believe the row of buildings to the right was the "Ham and Egg Parade")

Just think, nothing in that photo has survived to today...

I like the Nobby in the foreground.

If it was the first in the world, then you could with equal justification claim it to be the slowest...

The overall speed of the Overhead was affected by the large number of stations...

The later Southern terminus of the Overhead was actually underground...

Dingle.

On race days at Aintree, the Overhead at one time ran Its trains over the L&Y Tracks from Seaforth to Aintree...Overground..

So...

Overhead, Underground, Overground...
