RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted September 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 9, 2021 When I worked briefly for a local advertising agency the boss had a Dino, beautiful little car which chewed up,it’s fuel pump on the A127 in Southend and he asked me to look at it as he knew I raced Minis (no idea of the connection but he was a bit thick) anyhoo I turned up in one of the company Cortinas which was in nappy yellow which conveniently was the same colour (give or take) as the Dino and I proceeded to investigate, took the huge under shield off the Dino and found the pump which was as dead as any Italian electrics would be at about a year old upon having it in my hands it looked very similar to an SU pump (although I think it was a MM pump) anyhoo a quick trip to the local BMC dealer sourced an MGB V8 pump which I assumed would give about the same flow rate required, fitted it all up and bingo off I went for a very long test drive Oddly he soon after this traded the Ferrari in for a DBS V8 which on the first wet day he spun it turning out of his drive, I said he was thick, didn’t I? 7 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Rugd1022 Posted September 9, 2021 Share Posted September 9, 2021 It's amazing what turns up in old TV series and films, in a 1975 episode of 'The Sweeney' one of the nineteen original Aston Martin DB4GT Zagatos makes an appearance, supposedly belonging to one of the villains. In a couple of episodes of 'The Persuaders' Peter Wyngarde's maroon Bentley Continental Flying Spur can be seen lurking, he often used to visit Roger Moore and Tony Curtis on set or on location as 'Jason King' was shot at the same time, although on a much smaller budget. One of the best 'blink and you'll miss it' spots is Wyngarde arriving at a London underground car park in 'Jason King' driving one of only four RHD Maserati Ghibli Spiders ever built, complete with its unique factory hardtop, the number plate looks completely made up.... 6 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I followed one of those (The red one and this one was red) coming back through Mid Wales and while my little Mitsubishi kept catching up with it pulling out of junctions and round bends (The driver was being careful. I noticed that one of his brake lights was not working), I could not exceed 50mph as one of my front wheels had picked up a puncture and I was using the space saving spare to get home... So on long straights he was slowly pulling away as he was allowed 60mph and I wasn't, but as soon as the corners were coming up he was slowing right down to take them... I was trying to get back home quick but it was not working! Surprizingly my Mitsi was handling ok with one wheel being the thin thing of a spare, though I think the tread on it was a little less then what it was when I first put it on! 3 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I spotted this 02 quietly disintegrating whilst in west Wales recently. I don't know whether it is [was] a 16/18/2000 model, but I always wanted one when they came out. RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted September 11, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 11, 2021 (edited) I had a 2002tii back in the day, I was going to buy a new RS1600 but they had just stopped taken factory orders so couldn’t get one with a LSD, and in a huff went to the local BMW dealer and bought a one year old tii, had it converted with the twin headlamp kit from motorsport and had it repainted black……salesman couldn’t believe his luck…..hey I was young and stupid, but it was a fantastic car back then and took us on trips all over the country with ease (and at quite a rate of knots), the Kugelfischer injection could be temperamental on cold mornings but other than that it was great……then one day changing from first to second whizzing uphill the diff decided it didn’t like playing anymore and stripped most of its teeth, swapped a non running BMW in for a Mk3 Cooper S……I enjoyed that also Edited September 11, 2021 by boxbrownie 5 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Back then I was running a Vauxhall Firenza 2300 SSL (which had a stout engine if there ever was one) and there were occasional "interactions" with BMW types that spotted my car wasn't a 1300. I did notice their fragility a couple of times, once notably, the emission of a large cloud of steam from one that was part way through overtaking me. RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted September 11, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 11, 2021 That’s strange because the M10 engine is known to be an extremely robust and reliable engine, problems arise when owners don’t bother to either check the coolant or replace it with just water, the alloy heads then could get blocked with residue caused by lack of inhibitors in the coolant (just like if you did that today in modern alloy engines), in fact the M10 engine went on to be very successful in motorsport with the 2002 turbo throughout the European circuit. When mine was “tuned” on my mates rolling road it only managed 136 at the flywheel, mind you 6 more than standard and that was just twiddling with the dizzy and injection idle juice! As it doesn't identify which "High Road" is pictured, there's a fair chance it might be one local to whoever published it, so there might well be something on the back to narrow it down. The name of the shop in the foreground might help. Googling Hadlands gives very few results, and the most prominent is an Estate/Lettings Agency in Amersham.
