The Mk 1 Cortina was introduced as the Ford Consul Cortina. It could be this isn’t an original Lotus but a rebuild from an early 2 door shell.

That is the fate suffered by a base model Cortina one of my friends owned in the eighties. It got used to re shell a Lotus. There's probably more bitsas running around than real ones.

The Consul bonnet badge and the oval sidelights disappeared with the the 1964 model year facelift so early Lotus Cortinas would have had both. 

 

IIRC, all registration authorities had adopted suffixed registrations by 1964 (B), though perhaps not from January 1. Some hadn't issued enough new numbers in 1963 to bother with the "A" one at all. 

 

TNK series marks were issued by Hertfordshire CC, commencing August 1963, so the car pictured is quite possibly the real deal. Only way to know for sure is to identify whether it has the Lotus alloy panels etc.

 

In my youth, my dentist ran one as his daily driver, that had reputedly belonged to Jim Clark when it was new and had a few "differences" to the factory spec.

The Cortina is down as a green Ford Cortina (first registered 4th September 1963) on the MOT checker site.

And a quick google for the registration number brings up this sold auction listing:-

The listing says its a Ford Cortina Super, doesn't mention Lotus at all.

It's a Pembrokeshire registration, so could even be the one we bought off the neighbours in the early 80s while our Minor Convertible was away for a rebuild.  I should ask my Dad to check what the registration was.

I suspect not wildly out of line from what an unmolested Mk1 1500 in that sort of condition might fetch (even basic 1100 Escorts with drum brakes go for half that these days). 

 

However, only about an eighth of what a comparable real one would fetch and, as  nobody seems to have been pretending it was anything it wasn't (other than visually), no real harm done.

 

On the basis of the photo, somebody made quite a nice job of their sheep in wolf's clothing,.....

I think that it looks great. I'd prefer a basic Super, simply because you can leave it unattended and they're probably rarer than the Lotus model nowadays!

_NK was Hertfordshire according to all the references I've checked. Only one listed for Pembrokeshire is _DE.

If your talking about my pic of the cortina saddly no it's a small garage off Greengate Middleton  junction Manchester. He does get a lot of vintage cars passing through tho

I'd say it's 1969. The aero package - as we might now term it - is the original which was very nearly undriveable. While that configuration had been highly successful on the 3-litre 908, the 4.5-litre 917 needed much more taming at the higher speeds now on offer. Siffert and Ahrens did bring one that shape home to win the 1000km of Zeltweg in 1969, but they were regarded as 'brave' in doing so. The fact that a Lola T70 finished only a lap behind indicated just how much potential in the 917 was yet to be unlocked.

30 years ago, my Latin teacher had a collection of classic British cars (he was clearly into "classics" in more ways than one). This collection included two P6 saloons, a P6 estate conversion, an SD1, a TR6 and a Dolomite.

 

He passed away over the summer and a schoolfriend has just found his house for sale. Sadly it appears that the  P6s and the Dolly have been left to rot for some time and appear to now only be fit for the scrapyard, although one of the P6s was issued with a new logbook in June.

I think the address given by the agent is wrong - I've been up and down that road on StreetView and can't see any sign of that house or cars!
