More archive stuff from the, er archives... Slade guitarist Dave Hill's RR Silver Cloud III, and a nice screen shot form a late episode of 'UFO', how the 'eck did Mike Pratt squeeze into that tiny 914...? This was filmed in late '69 so it was probably one of the first examples into the country...

Recent post on this forum have discussed at what age is a car, an "old car".

I have dug out this picture of the first car that I owned, and find it hard to believe that it would now be 54 years old.

Fiat 500. They were a funny little thing. :)

There was in recent times anyway, a garage off Caledonian Rd, that had a load of those in various conditions, the up and running ones they wanted utterly mad money for, 12 to 15 grand as i recall...

Yes, Blundell Road - I remember having an interview up that way in 2005 (I can remember it was 6/7/2005 as I passed through Edgware Road exactly 24 hours before the bomb went off there....). Discovered the garage whilst trying to find the site of 'Mrs Lopsided's house!

The FIATS show up on Street View (April 2018).

Incidentally it seemed very strange to be walking around the full sized Copenhagen Fields!

Richmond Park in 1966.... the Landrover type thingy on the right of the frame, is it an Austin Scamp perhaps…?

It's an Austin Gipsy, made 1958-68 as competition to Land Rover.  The Scamp was a mini-based kit car.

Mrs lopsided's house was I believe built for the film at the end of Frederica st, all that remains of the street is the very short stump of it off Cally rd. The rest of the street was built over with modern housing. A friend used to live there so I was a regular visitor.

35p a litre for petrol!

That's expensive! I remember my first car, an Austin A30, in 1967; filling (yes completely) the tank and getting change from a fiver, (And there was an attendant to do it for me).

Mind you, in 2000 I converted to lpg and rejoiced in paying 20p/litre for it. (About 55p, sometimes less, today).

The '69 W&P Mk2 Cooper S I've been lusting after for years has popped up for sale again, at a fiver short of £70k it's a bit bonkers but with history from day one and some choice rock star connections it's quite the period piece...

Edit : I've just checked the dealer's website and it's sold...!

Our 1972 Mk3 “S” was registered by some Lord of something, I think it was Lichfield. It was sold by the dealer after being held over.........we got it from Jon Mowatt engineering, Essex in about 1975 after our 2002tii blew it’s rear diff.......the S lasted about a year before being written off on a lovely sunny Sunday in Essex by a drunken farmer driving his 2000Pi running into the back of us after he turned out of the pub and apparently didn’t see us waiting in the country lane waiting to turn right.

We then bought a 1275GT......not the same but hey ho, that lasted until we got married in ‘77......blimey I wish we still had some of our cars!
