Well, I used to own a 105 Junior myself albeit a hardtop. Sadly, never got round to restoring it. Hopefully someone did.

I note , the [Australian] Holden name is to disappear.  probably quite a blow to the Aussies' heritage?

Mostly in name only now down under, manufacturing ceased several years ago now just 600-800 jobs to go as well, feel for the employees but it’s been on the cards for a while now, no more Commodore, what will the outback Billys do now?

A rather nice 'spot' on the A6 just south of Kettering today on the way home from the Luton stone job - a white 1965 Mustang convertible being driven with the top down by a youngish looking lad, bravo sir, bravo :drink_mini:. Also spotted earlier in the day, passing under the railway whilst I was shunting at Crescent Road yard - a purple VW Beetle on Fuchs alloys, I think it was a '68 / '69 G plater.

Drive Thai built, Japanese designed utes, like most of them do already. It's mildly hilarious to see such things festooned with Chinese made Aussie flags around January 26 every year.

Looks like a Riley 1.5 in this Carnaby Street shot from 1966... in the early '70s my mate's Dad had a black one with a lovely red interior which he drove everywhere as though he were qualifying for pole position at Brands Hatch, by an odd coincidence his surname was Hickman and he looked uncannily like Bill Hickman, the stunt driver in 'Bullitt' who drove the Dodge Charger... anyone know how many Riley and Wolesley 1.5s were built...? I can't remember the last time I saw one at a show or on the road anywhere...

LONDON CS RILEY 1.5.jpg

The Riley 1.5 was the quintissential Grammar School Head of Department's car, with burnished wood fascia etc. It also had twin SU carbs, though I doubt that any of the owners took advantage of this.

The Wolseley was a bit more basic, with but a single carb. Nice drive, though: we had one around the time we were married (1983), which we drove from Newcastle to Lyon. We gave up on it when the MoT examiner pointed out that the reason we could open only one rear door at a time was that the body was flexing, due to the floor panels having rotted through. We replaced it with an Austin Somerset...

The Riley 1.5/Wolseley 1500 was basically a Morris Minor in a posh frock with the 1500 B series engine.

Talking of posh frocks, the young female of the species striding out of the picture's right side scrubbed up pretty well don't you think?

More than that. I can take my 40 year old MG Midget into London's Low Emission Zone with impunity. My VW camper (diesel) attracts a charge of £100 per day. Bit like allowing steam trains in smokeless zones really!

Rich posh people would have an issue with running their vehicles in the Brighton run otherwise, what privilege? :D

At one time I ran two vehicles. A Mk. II Fiesta and a Suzuki SJ10.  The Fiesta had a 1117cc engine and the Suzuki a 970cc engine. In the budget one year the tax on cars under 1100cc was reduced as an anti-polution measure. The extra 17cc of the Fiesta meant that it did not qualify but the Suzuki did. What made the situation more ridiculous was that the Fiesta only used half the fuel that the Suzuki did. The Suzuki weighed 1.3 tonnes, was lower geared and had the aerodynamics of a brick.

A few recent pics i've just found on some old cd's, most were taken the best part of 20 years ago i would think, there's a few weird ones and i'm not sure what the dark Green car in the forth pic' is? I do like the Cherry Red colour on the Triumph roadster. i think the Rickman Ranger was based on the  mk1-2 Ford Escort running gear?

Coo! The head of our Surrey Grammar Skool (650 pupils) drove a white 105E, reg 295UPG. The poshest car in the small staff car park was a Sunbeam Rapier, driven by one of the English teachers. When the Head of History (with the surname Macaulay what else could she have taught?) traded her Morris 1000 for an 1100 (known to us as 'metal fatigues', courtesy of a recall) she was heard complaining that she'd been fighting with it since delivery. When Sherry and I returned for a tour of the (now Comprehensive) skool in 2016, the Head, a most charismatic man, drove a slightly elderly Volvo estate. A Salvationist, he has since retired.
