Rugd1022
A rather nice 'spot' on the A6 just south of Kettering today on the way home from the Luton stone job - a white 1965 Mustang convertible being driven with the top down by a youngish looking lad, bravo sir, bravo . Also spotted earlier in the day, passing under the railway whilst I was shunting at Crescent Road yard - a purple VW Beetle on Fuchs alloys, I think it was a '68 / '69 G plater.

Drive Thai built, Japanese designed utes, like most of them do already. It's mildly hilarious to see such things festooned with Chinese made Aussie flags around January 26 every year. 2
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 18, 2020 The Wolseley company also had strong Australian links but they didn't produce any cars there. They made sheep shearing machinery but the car part of the business separated before WW1.

I can't remember the last time I saw one at a show or on the road anywhere... The Riley 1.5 was the quintissential Grammar School Head of Department's car, with burnished wood fascia etc. It also had twin SU carbs, though I doubt that any of the owners took advantage of this. The Wolseley was a bit more basic, with but a single carb. Nice drive, though: we had one around the time we were married (1983), which we drove from Newcastle to Lyon. We gave up on it when the MoT examiner pointed out that the reason we could open only one rear door at a time was that the body was flexing, due to the floor panels having rotted through. We replaced it with an Austin Somerset...
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 18, 2020 The Riley 1.5/Wolseley 1500 was basically a Morris Minor in a posh frock with the 1500 B series engine. 3

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 18, 2020 (edited) At one time I ran two vehicles. A Mk. II Fiesta and a Suzuki SJ10. The Fiesta had a 1117cc engine and the Suzuki a 970cc engine. In the budget one year the tax on cars under 1100cc was reduced as an anti-polution measure. The extra 17cc of the Fiesta meant that it did not qualify but the Suzuki did. What made the situation more ridiculous was that the Fiesta only used half the fuel that the Suzuki did. The Suzuki weighed 1.3 tonnes, was lower geared and had the aerodynamics of a brick. Edited February 19, 2020 by PhilJ W

Owd Bob
A few recent pics i've just found on some old cd's, most were taken the best part of 20 years ago i would think, there's a few weird ones and i'm not sure what the dark Green car in the forth pic' is? I do like the Cherry Red colour on the Triumph roadster. i think the Rickman Ranger was based on the mk1-2 Ford Escort running gear?

When the Head of History (with the surname Macaulay what else could she have taught?) traded her Morris 1000 for an 1100 (known to us as 'metal fatigues', courtesy of a recall) she was heard complaining that she'd been fighting with it since delivery. When Sherry and I returned for a tour of the (now Comprehensive) skool in 2016, the Head, a most charismatic man, drove a slightly elderly Volvo estate. A Salvationist, he has since retired. 2
