I've heard people say that there were cars like this but I've never seen one myself. It's also got alloys from an earlier car as they were cheap and brand new where this car was originally on steels and trims . The 88 model year cars were quite dull to be honest they got rid of red carpets and alloys became an option I've also fitted red carpets. That made me wonder why the MG Owners Club doesn't really encompass these two models but does provide support forthe MGF, TF and the Z models as well as continually promoting the Chinese built cars through the website and the monthly "Enjoying MG" magazine. Whenever I take my 'S' out for a spin I often feel quite vulnerable in traffic but this in itself makes me extra wary of everyone else around me. People do let you out at junctions but are sometimes surprised at how quickly you can accelerate up to 'line speed' once you're in front of them. Thankfully the 1275 S has bags of torque which helps in avoiding potential faux pahs, I can put it into fourth at low speed and it'll be over the NSL in no time at all. Bloody noisy though....! Incidentally I've got another Mini lined up to view this week, a Minisprint replica / homage that started life as a 1960 Mk1 but somewhere along the line has been reshelled into a (cut down) Mk3 shell and had the Mk1 rear lights, front grille etc put back on, which I'm fine with as a kosher '60s Sprint would be the best part of £50k now. Their bodywork is made of bacofoil, so the mini might simply disappear inside the crumpled dent in the 4x4? Judging by the numbers of serious injuries, and fatalities that occur to fol driving 'new' motors, when the hit stuff....I'm not sure I'd want a new 4x4 crumpling up around my nether regions? How come I have no real issues with my old motors occasionally not working as I think they ought.....yet, when a new motor coughs and splutters[and simply tries to die] it becomes the end of the world? I was looking through some photographs that my late father took on a family holiday on the Isle of Wight in 1965, and found this one in the pack. The Austin Allegro immediately gave the game away that it could not have been taken with the others. There's nothing like that on The Isle of Wight as far as I remember although we moved from there early '64. Big flares and a car (Ford Corsair?) with an L suffix to its registration plate suggest you are looking at no earlier than 1972. The view got me thinking more towards the west country with late afternoon sun so I am guessing somewhere around Wembury outside and to the east of Plymouth. If anyone knows the area of Heybrook Bay between Bovisand and Wembury, they may be able to rule it out. There used to be a naval gunnery range around there. I've just started re-watching 'The Baron' which has a CV8 as the main character's car, it gets used a lot in each episode and looks the business, despite being shot on 16mm film (mostly in the Autumn / Winter of '65 / '66) the car is beautifully photographed for the time. I used to prefer the looks of the Interceptor, as it had a more modern look to it. Since the Ford Corsair was discontinued in 1970 a normal L reg is unlikely; the plate isn't quite clear, nor placed centrally as would be usual. It annoys me the MGOC don't seem to like the MMM cars , they are just a worthy of the badge as MG1100s and the Zs They sell the Chinese cars which are not really sporty at all. My missus has an MG3 which is ok but not that fast. They like to mention 6R4 but not the rest,. I've had MGB owners make very disparaging comments about the maestro at shows. I like most post war MGs my metro is extremely rare being a turbo I went after but failed to get a mk1 turbo at Christmas they are in single figures for road legal ones It has to be mentioned the MGOC is not a club but a business 3 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
