Some more local stuff in and around Rugby from the '50s to the '70s.... the shot with Her Maj in the Roller is from her visit to the AEI Works in '67, almost everything in the background of this shot is now gone...

Could the vintage car in the first picture be a Sunbeam?

I lived eight years in Bilton after moving from Dunchurch so the picture of the garage opposite the end of Magnet Lane was very familiar. The garage/dealer is now a Tesco Metro.

Normally the ones with the three speed column change gearbox had a bench seat and those with the floor change four speed box had separate seats. The one I had (1969 saloon) was unusual as it had the four speed floor change and the bench seat. I had to be careful if a young lady was sat in the middle of the front seat when changing gear.;)

In the FD series the bench seat, column change and 1600 engine was standard on the Victor but could be optioned upwards to four on the floor and/or individual seats and if automatic box was optioned the bigger 2000 engine came with that. If this really was a genuine '2000' then the front bench was a very deliberate and unusual choice. Perhaps six seats were needed by the original owner on a regular basis. or, as Joseph suggests, it was a 'bitsa'.

A friend of mine had a normal Victor 2000 estate for a while back in the late '70s the doors of which closed with a nice thunk. Great looking car but a tad rust prone (as were most '60s/'70s cars).

Wasn’t that the range that was launched as the “Intercontinental” .....?

Or it was a "cut and shut".

All my fond memories of my love waggon destroyed in a single post:rolleyes:.

Anyroad, it had a bench seat somewhere, maybe I’m thinking of the oft occupied rear seat, after all it was 43 years ago that I owned it. It finally went to the scrap yard after I unintentionally took it off roading on a snowy night. A sad day but great times.

Thank you stewartingram for the photoshop treatment.

Could well be, I wish I knew! It seemed such a nice image I had to share it on here ;).

Here's another from Rugby, Park Road in the '60s...

Seeing as how we're digging out some old photos, here's one my father took in December of 1958, of Auburn Street (which back then was part of the Hume Highway) about 3 months after we arrived in Australia, on a trip to Canberra:

And a trio of shots in Canberra (that's me in front of the Hillman Minx):

Spotted in a 1981 episode of 'Minder' last night, a late 1275GT driven by Terry's girlfriend Debbie the striptease artiste.... so typical of the time with it's vinyl roof,  Wood & Pickett nudge bars and 12'' Wolfrace wheels....

And if you still had the kit they go for roughly £100+ unbuilt and £75+ built :o

Long since gone to that Great Modelling Shelf In The Sky!

I seem to remember that the body was warped and didn’t sit on all four wheels properly too. And no that wasn’t down to my building :)

Looks like a new MINI stretched like that! Did it have the cut-down Victor FD twin headlight grille?

I doubt it Bernard as it's not a full on Wood & Pickett Mini Margrave job, just a spruced up 1275GT - unfortunately you don't see the front of it on screen, only the rear end and off side as in the screen grabs. We do hear it drive off just out of camera shot though, it sounded rather good...!

I chucked mine in the bin about 25 years ago, together with an MG 1100, Austin Maxi, Ford Zephyr, Ford Escort and a Morris Marina

Just been chatting on another forum with a pal about Minis and the subject of factory and aftermarket seats came up, these 'factory recliners' from late '65 are the most comfortable I've ever had in a Mini, despite the stitching coming adrift, they're definitely better than the repro recliners I've got in my Mk2 S...

Back when car seats were upholstered like furniture not park benches, really needed the recliners in a Mini......along with Paddy Hopkirk seat adjusters you didn’t need to get in the back, under......errr...... certain circumstances

The moulds were damaged early in the production run and only a small number of kits were produced.
