£25+ K for a Nova?? Gulp!! And I thought my beloved Mk1 Escorts were now going for stupid daft prices!!

That's also about the going rate for a Citroen DS, and in right-hand-drive!

Clearly there are loads of nostalgic fools people who want it enough (though whether they actually have the cash come hammer time is another thing). Sure, it's had money spent on it, it's clean enough, and it still has some of the original literature to go with it.

I can vaguely remember there was a fashion in the early '90s for sticking 2-litre 16v engines (out of a Cavalier) in them. Hardly see Novas these days, never mind re-engineered ones.

The Sport was an homologation special so it has some serious rarity, and as most became track cars, the surviving ones are scarce but its more about how sought after they are, and I doubt thats enough to prise £25k from someones wallet. Its only worth what someones willing to pay.

What about this power plant shoehorned under a Morris Minor  shell? I can remember it was seen at the 1998, Morris Minor 50th anniversary rally and said under gear came from a Land Rover but that's all I can remember.

Hadn't seen that before, but I know that there is/was an MGB on a Range Rover chassis - simply because a garage owner plonked a spare MGB bodyshell down on said chassis to save storage space and decided he liked the idea!

Years ago, there was a Classic Reliability Trials competitor of note, who plonked an MGB GT bodyshell onto a VW air cooled floor pan/ chassis...Seemed to work well.

He did the same with a Reliant GTE....

There's a couple of A35's and 100E's with Susuki jeep underpinnings running about.

The other day I was asked if I would be prepared to "caretake" a mint looking refurbed DS (as a past aficionado owner of a number of classic Citroens) but I am ashamed to admit I ran a mile from shouldering the responsibilities.

I prefer appreciating the labours of others in battling heroically with the constant petty hydraulics failures and the late Jan early Feb.creeping rust issues.

I drove uneventfully home in my beaten up 09 Mondeo (no part more expensive than £20 from the local scrappy) with my tail between my back legs.

Would you all have jumped at the offer?

There's a guy currently hillclimbing a classic Mini, into which he's managed to squeeze the motor & drivetrain from a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo... It's quite quick!

I'd have gladly taken it home. Hydraulics failures are generally a sign of neglect or lack of use. The DS was designed to be used.

I think I was daunted by the wholly 'fettled' feel of the vehicle. The look It exuded of knowing it was worth an awful lot of money scared me.

My Citroens always had a slightly 75 registration plate look about them - implying other things in life were more important than the voiture left parked on the boulevard.

Apparently a Vauxhall Nova engine/transaxle will fit into a Mini but it has to have a Clubman front end or the radiator hung outside the grill.

Ours has got a Clubbie front end! But changing the engine make puts you into Formula Libre in Hillclimbing, so we'd be 'competing' with the likes of the Evo Mini!!

Spare a thought for the bloke who, earlier this year, chanced his arm by driving his half-million-quid Aston DB5 through my Orthodox religious district, risking his pride and joy against the people carriers and 4x4s which are the vehicles of choice here.

That is the mark of a Parisian.

Rome is similar. Cars with small dents down the sides.

Saw this at the Helmingham Hall ()near Stowmarket) classic event yesterday and thought of Horesetan.

I took my 73 MGB, which we parked next to a delightful and - compared to VW campers - rather rare Dormobile. My friend is seen relaxing after our widespread and fruitless search for a Lotus Elan. He has a S4 Elan and was looking for one to identify how the radiator fan was fitted as the one on his car keeps coming loose.

For the first time at such an event I became very aware of the different attitude of those owning a Classic or  modern Sports car. The former were generally interested in the car, its restoration, etc. irrespective of what it was. The latter, especially those with Lambos, Porsches, muscle cars,  etc. seem more interested in impressing the public with how much noise their car made, how fast it went (usually when breaking the speed limit on the A12 or A14) or how much they had spent on their modern classic.

Can't think of anything more boring I went to Beaulieu with some mates a few years ago I got pee'd of with nupperties asking me what my car was,

It's the dark blue one at the back when I pointed to the badge on the front I got silly looks from the Bozo's, it was a "Ford Day" and you can't get in the arena without a Ford car

For those wingnuts who want to know its a Focus ST 4 door with an 2.5 ltr turbo lump with personal engine mapping that put 265BHP at the wheels, 0-60 mph a tad over 4.5 seconds

not bad for a family saloon I was sorry to see it go @ 20mpg on a good day and £600 for tyres every year it was costly. :senile:

I thought the A14 had SPECS cameras along most of the route nowadays?

It doesn't stop the idiots. One Felixstowe resident has been "caught" by the cameras on the A14 Orwell bridge 11 times  in a year.  8500 offences were racked up in the first year since the cameras were installed. The record is for 114 mph in the 60 mph limit on the bridge. No doubt - from overhearing some of rather loud conversations at the Helmingham Hall event  - it is a badge of honour 1st Class to significantly exceed the speed limit. I suppose if your group of friends and family are into buying Lambos, Evo's and Porsches (they were ahead of us in the queue for the cream teas) then it is just another way of proving your belief in your superiority.

Nice car, but I prefer the Nordic (Olympic?) Blue Mk2 in the front!

How does that happen? That should mean at least 33 points (maybe 30 if the first offence led to a Speed Awareness Course)? If he/she hasn't been banned, then the magistrates are equally idiots...
