You can just make out the colour divide on the rear cab in that pic. 66031 would make an interesting weathering project, it had one cab roof painted white at the same time during its long period out of use awaiting a new engine. This was subsequently overpainted maroon, which is now wearing off leaving white marks all over one of the cab rooves.

Did EwS, DB ever fix the issue with hot cabs ?

As quite a few of these pics show at least one cab door open, I'd suggest not!

Basically they have been fitted with a fan in the cab roof (as we all know heat rises) so basically its like sitting in a fan oven now.

Tinted film has also been place on side windows again not very effective at all

66090 has been trialled with full proper real air con. infinitely better but is fitted in place of current heater and is n my opinion too low down.

Unions I'll refrain from commenting on as they are not my most favourite organisation at the mo

The doors don't lead directly into the cab so don't take too much from that. The doors are only pressed steel and can warp, so there's plenty where one door doesn't like staying shut, though conversely there are some where the door scrapes the floor as it opens - and that's a constant across all the operators 66s I've been on.

Thanks for the answers from those with more experience than me - the doors being open jumped out at me as being a pragmatic solution to the problem! I hope the issue is dealt with for those who spends hours on the real thing (rather than those tinkering with small versions like me!)

Thank you, but never will happen

Realistically these are 15 years old, and to be fair my FOC don't care about us that much

I can guess who that is, shame though as we all know people's concentration drops off when it's too hot. We have similar issue in aviation with one type, where you an open the side window s and some airports won't let you get he aircon on...

Actually Almost 20 years oldfirst EWS one was delivered march 98.

Bit of an unusual one here for 2 reasons, firstly the 1513 Toton North Yard to Crewe Basford Hall isn't usually double headed and secondly I don't recall seeing it coming along the down fast, especially on a Friday afternoon!!!!!! Picture taken last Friday 9th June just south of Casey Lane and Basford Hall Junction itself with 66772 leading sister loco 66712.

there was an emergency speed restriction on the down slow at stableford imposed on Friday afternoon, chances are the train was on the fast to allow them to put the speed boards and Dalek out, (it was lifted on Monday)

It was quite funny as I had been watching it's progress on opentraintimes as it overtook the class 40 on the special on the slow. The 40 obviously got held at the signal just before Newcastle Road.......I could hear it whistling away while I was stood in the field......lol. It all seemed a bit strange late Friday afternoon!!!!!!!!!!

With the annual pilgramage to the DEMU done last week, the preceeding few days were spent lineside at a few locations. The trip up from Southampton to Burton took a small detour via Suffolk and the Midlands, although not all in one day!

Heading for my home turf, 66565 heads along the WCML at Comberford Hall working 4O49 Crewe Basford Hall to Southampton Maritime. 02.06.17

An unusual one! 66588 flys through Tamworth working a Leicster to Ditton service, according to RTT. Can only assume it started from Leicster as a continuation of another service that was stoppped/cancelled there? 02.06.17
