Alcanman
37s were never a common sight on passenger trains at Newcastle Central, however, they did occaisionally turn up on enthusiasts 'specials' Sadly, I neglected to make a note of dates and loco numbers. astrase2
Thirteen 37s all in a row: http://www.martinbray-ukloco.com/severntunneljunction-2.html Bloomin' typical. You wait all day for a 37 then you get 13 all at once.

Wayne 37901
Got me by surprise this one. 37175 returns to Canton whilst on a driver training run earlier this year. This was prior to Colas taking over the contract to supply traction for Network Rail.

Popular Post Pagey
Hi All, 37's were few and far between in the early to mid 1970s around Edinburgh and Fife. Don't have one photo of them at that time around here. However I did save up and take photographic trips to Newcastle when I could. The first five photos are taken from what was the waste ground opposite Gateshead Shed in 1974 or 75. The remainder are at Stratford in the 1980s(?), I was obviously more interested in the new P&O container than the 37 in the last photo... apologies

Here is a photo of Class A3 60040 Cameronian stored there in April 1964 along with others of the class. Howie
Pagey
Hi Howie, Was there quite a few times and always wondered what the big flat area was - always assumed a big factory of some sort because of the difference in height to the running lines - I never thought of sidings. Thanks for that info.... Pagey Edited January 5, 2016 by Pagey

Fat Controller
Hi Howie, Was there quite a few times and always wondered what the big flat area was - always assumed a big factory of some sort because of the difference in height to the running lines - I never thought of sidings. Thanks for that info.... Pagey At one time, the N.E. Laundry used to be there as well, dealing with all the resteraunt-car linen along with bed linen from hotels and sleeping cars. RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted January 10, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 10, 2016 Not a great picture, still getting to grips with the camera in less than brilliant light. 37518 stands at Euston on Saturday 5th December 2015.
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 11, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 11, 2016 On a dull Saturday afternoon the short set returns (it's been to Crewe) Eccles Road 09 January 2016 37425, Sir Robert McAlpine/Concrete Bob and 37422 and 57305, Northern Princess, on 5Z37, 10:16, Crewe Gresty Bridge - Norwich C.PT. T.&R.S.M.D (15:54) - short set off maintenance (9525, 6046 and 6117) Notice the 158 ... the 37 appeared on the corner as the 158 approached from behind, the 158 was obviously going to pass at exactly the wrong moment when suddenly the power went off on the 37, the 158 passed and power was not only restored but vigorously applied - thanks to the DRS guys for overcoming the temporary issue and keeping it all moving

South-East Rail
What's all that stuff hanging off the front of the loco on the top picture? It's a track measurement and mapping system called 'RILA': http://www.raildata.nl/english/rila.asp Ed
RMweb Premium ColinK Posted January 19, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 19, 2016 Last year I went out with my camcorder and videoed the 37s on the Cumbrian Coast Line. You can watch the video I made here, I've had to reduce the quality in order to upload it without exceeding my free allowance. If people like it, I might upgrade my vimeo account so you can see it in HD. Please let me know what you think.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted January 20, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 20, 2016 Looks like there's another celebrity 37 destined for Cumbrian Coast duty. DRS departing from corporate painting policy..................... Cheers, Mick
