Marcus 37
Oh just one other thing. If you want realism make sure you put some sun glasses on the driver. It's compulsory if you are driving it. HaHa.
Jaz
Marcus37 / Marcus Thank you they are lovely. I will probably need to weather slightly once the new decals are on, and these are brilliant. If you are due in Peterborough at a weekend you should give us a heads up. Would love to come and see it, and take some reference pictures.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted March 2, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 2, 2014 By the way, I'm pretty sure, I'll have a look next time I'm on it, but the real one is vinyls I think. Marcus Yes - the real one is vinyls. The MSC liveried 66709 Sorrento is also vinyled http://www.flickr.com/photos/39760266@N07/8526256586/in/photolist-dZri2U-ebvjfy-hzREfj-dd86Xh-dYD5MN-dYDPke-bZJw9A-cMR89q-khWJEs-edJ4H7-dW9wFe-fz3Xor-fQpDtW-hFtr9p-dWf7uu-hFxToG-e4mn76-h5vpH6-eeDngw-cK4yGd-e3hfgX-fbbMv7-ceMYY5-gH34qc-d74Huu-hHM13r-ciiTCE-dK9rBT-e9VH4v-dzg5NC-fqTU7a-hm9h9J-dMKLWB-e9cL7S-cBN5hS-bVgwed-cnNpqU-dkQzfJ-e9vnCN-e9cBKu-e9cCZd-bVgwx1-gnHz39-fsixo2-fsy3QU-fsxFfh-e9d73q-fFyUKv-cvFi8h-dWaiWG-ePk9jz What were you saying about keeping them clean?? I have the artwork for it, but couldn't see an easy way of creating the graduated sky background - maybe a gentle faded airbrush Cheers, Mick
Jaz
Paint the white with a acrylic base and allow to dry, then a white enamel or the tamiya opaque white and mix with the tamiya opaque blue........heart tablets might be needed Edited March 2, 2014 by Jaz
Kal
I think, I am going to have a go at changing the lights, so that it has proper day and night running lights, and add sound, and maybe a tail light marker. Do they have stobe lighting? The cab could probably do with some detail too, and maybe a few warning lights. Not sure if they are create a lot of clag and smoke maybe a challenge, but worth a thought. Can anyone think of anything else that would improve the Bachmann 66 720? Kal
GBRF is quickly becoming my favourite Company Livery/s I think in my new Peterborough section, I will have to try and add the Peterborough depot if I can and wondering whether Peterborough Nene Valley station could go on too. Probably too much in 4mm , but maybe with some modellers license.... Will have to see.

Jaz
The face is tacky enough to take some paint so another try rmweb929class66AT I knw the mouth wa going to be a beggar to paint, so I went off and got a bit of copper wire of a size pushed the copper back and paint the end of the O then pressed it agains the model to make the mouth shape. I have noticed a couple of discrepancies on where I placed the white so green on white and white on green. I need to go back again once thats tacky too I also touched up the most opaque bits of the pink so it is now a bit patchy The yellow did not look right either so I adjusted it rmweb930class66AU Why it is easier to notice how it ought to be....just after you did it wrong? Sods Law. One step forward three backwards. But I plough on. To be honest at this scale with this size paintbrush 000 I think it would be lucky to get it all correct first time round. Or I have just become more cavalier over the whole process. I am certainly happier to not mess with any more masking tape Although the iPad and the reference pictures are checked on a very regular basis.

Only joking Kal, I had a few when I had Kingsmill and with SWD Sound they were lovely. (although the Legomanbiffo is even better now IMHO) The front lights is the main HATE POINT as far as I'm concerned, just how Bachmann could get them SO WRONG and still continue to sell them amazes me after all the fuss that was made over the Class 37 roof profile. My mate Bob Bateman (Oversetts Models) did his with Fiber Optics if that helps. Andy Edited March 2, 2014 by Andrew P
Jaz
A peek at the whole side to date rmweb933class66AV Both doors still need work. The moon and star should be more acid in colour. And the green will need another coat to stop it being so patchy. But I am getting there.

Plenty of Portacabins, shipping containers and a single road shed & fuelling point. It really would be a good place to model. I'll get some reference photos if you like. Jaz
Marcus That would be brilliant. We would be really interested the 'now' stuff that would date, like tools and uniforms, and liveries, bins, staff working (with their permission of course) it is the minute of life that people think is so common that gets overlooked that will make it fantastic in years to come
Jaz
The left hand door. At first I thought the orange here was the GBRF yellow dull, then realised it actually has a faint redness (perhaps a contaminated paint brush?) so I copied it. The right hand rail seems painted, I thing the left one is now silver, so I may update that once I am certain, meantime white. rmweb932class66AW Also glad I waited to do the lemony top coat of yellow on the moon and sun, as I am very happy with the moon shape and the star is not too bad either. Once the GBRF dull yellowcake into play the moon and star are probably about right. So am trying to finish up the right hand door. rmweb933class66AX the Right Hand door is now pretty close rmweb943class66AY
Jaz
Am leaving it to dry until tomorrow and see it in daylight. But it is basically finished on this side. rmweb935class66AZ Once convinced it is ok it will need a seal. Newbryford says Klear is a good sealer. And if it is good enough for him........ The rl oe is photographed on a dull day see the heavy clouds? Plus men is under a fluorescent light at the moment which bleaches the light. I'll put up a day light picture tomorrow. ukrailways1970today.me.uk AND AS KAL said earlier regards his own work...the downside?....is there is still the other side......still to do...... ...oh blood and sand....the white near the face is too big........later......really shouldn't put mine against the real thing..... so close....

Jack374
Looking spot on Jaz... I don't think I could bring myself to do one... (If you don't like the livery, you could sell it and get about 3 more locos out of it ) Jack.
Jaz
I just checked with Kal. The base model is apparently about £125 which gives you the metro ends. So less painting. Plus add the decals £12.(IF you get them right first time) Plus paints. If you sold it on Ebay you lose 15%, and postage to buy replacements. Plus my time. I have only done one side so far. Two 20's and as Peterborough as it is today is already definite, it seems only logical to try and accomadate the depot. Need to map it out and work out what compression will be needed. Any photos or dimensions will be gratefully received, thank you Regards kal Edited March 2, 2014 by Jaz

Jaz
Newbryford. LOL I don't think you have anything to worry about. Plus I only got this GBRF up and running with your input. But yellows? Am rather fascinated by how you do those..... . Seriously though, Kal was looking at the time people buy in locos, renumber and possibly repaint etc they don't make a lot of profit. And the graffiti trains take up a lot of time. I am so glad we met you, then followed your thread because you are truly inspiring. In fact we have been here less than a year, and found so many gifted people. We have a good laugh and learn, what could be better.

Jaz
Second side of the Class 66 Children's livery First off I have a go with the cocktail stick infused in super glue as before, it gets at the raised bits quite easily rmweb940clas66BA last time I changed over to the t cut about here, but as mentioned before I was not convinced it actually removed or thinned the paint merely facilitated it like a grease so I just kept using the cocktail stick even in to the had bits. It not only worked....but I don't have to mess getting rid of all the T cut residue...which is what clogged up the vent last time. rmweb941class66BB And lasttime I found the wavy line was so thin a cocktail stick barely touched it so it was a LOT of elbow grease with a cotton bud and the T cut, I am of the opinion that the cotton bud rubbed this off as well and again the t cut was of minimal impact. Hence I considered a different solution, then thought this line is so thin it will not even be detected under a layer of paint. If I was airbrushing thinly this might be an issue, but I am hand painting with a vengeance.....so I plan to have a look at leaving it in situ......wish me luck. If the paint does not take over this...I will probably paint it with the GBRF dull blue from Phoenix Precision....then over paint. rmweb942class66BC Ok am off to try this out. Fingers crossed.
