RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted March 23, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 23, 2021 Some from last night, derby to didcot via princes risborough and Bicester town, should have been stabled in reading but I don't sign beyond didcot and there was no conductor available derby alongside 37240, gutted it wasn’t that loco as I need it for red penning for driving Changing ends in derby 37421 doing the honours southbound it was shortly after this I discovered I had an issue with the loco, couldn’t get any more than 200amps or 15 mph out of it, normally that is caused by the control air pipe having a cock open somewhere on the train, spoke to the box and came to a stand to investigate only to find all unused cocks were shut, tried a couple of other things but to no avail so I got myself put into sunny hill loop for a further look, again had a look round and couldn’t see anything, then I noticed the control air pipe between the loco and coach wasn’t quite sitting right, very hard to see but something didn’t look right, got under and had a look and low and behold the O rings were ever so slightly off centre to each other causing an air leak and robbing me of power, reconnected them properly and power was fully restored, very lucky to have spotted it when I did! that made us 30 mins late through burton in trent but the lateness meant that the booked stops we had in various loops could be ditched and we ended up early by the time we got to water orton! Recorded from aynho jn to Bicester then transit to princes risborough to change ends then it was recording from Bicester to oxford and into didcot to stable back on it tonight, didcot to oxford then record all the way to Marylebone and back to aynho and transit back to derby, a long shift! 35
CUTLER2579
Jim, this is one very interesting thread. As a kettle man all my life I have learnt so much in a few days from this thread. Regards,Del.
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted March 23, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 23, 2021 Thanks for that, I’m always learning! last night for example, I knew exactly what the problem was as soon as I set off and couldn’t get power because of the control air issue but that’s the first time I’ve ever had one leak from a connected pipe connection, into the memory bank for if/when it happens again anyway a quick one before I set off from didcot, having a brew in the DBSO then back to derby via Marylebone! Change of job tomorrow night now too, instead of 196 testing I’ve got a light loco Chester to Liverpool tuebrook sidings

RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted March 29, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 29, 2021 Just 2 from this morning, 66778 in rugby, first time I’ve driven this one I think mans in Bescot GB have spent a bit of money renewing the yard lights for white LED type as well as doing some demolition, the Shunter’s cabins are all being quickly demolished as was the signal box which stood at the top of the hump on the down side, it was there last week and now, there it was gone! the Shunter’s cabin was behind the skip and the signal box in front of the LOC cabinets in the middle distance 22

RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted April 2, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 2, 2021 You run round in Tyseley, go along the good and into the old caledonian yard then back the train into the unloading facility 2 from today, thought I was day off but checked last night and I was booked to drive a road learning loco over Cannock chase, the driver said he was only booked to do one trip so I thought I’d have a nice short day, got back to bescot then another driver came over and said he was on the 2nd trip so I had to fire up the loco for another trip, then I discovered there was a 3rd driver due as well and that was my day done, then a 4th driver got in touch for the 4th trip that had no conductor driver assigned to it so I ended up taking that train out too! if I don’t know Walsall to rugeley like the back of my hand after that I never will, got 2 more trips on it Monday too with 2 more drivers who need to review it! bescot Rugeley East Midlands gateway tomorow 26
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted April 3, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 3, 2021 (edited) Just 2 from today, crewe to east mids gateway, booked to take the loco back to bescot but it turned out it was staying there, couldn’t have moved it anyway is it was blocked in at the dead end of the terminal by other trains on the run round roads so a nice early finish! Also ran early so got in there and was in the car back before we were even booked to arrive!
