RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted August 25, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 25, 2020 Did Inverness to oban today via the Isle of Skye Absolutely cracking road From Inverness, the A835 is fantastic, then suddenly it turns into a narrow road with passing places! At Garve the line to Kyle of lochalsh joins the road and runs alongside for pretty much the rest of the route, they even share an avalanche shelter! never done that line but having driven the road I wouldn’t mind a ride over the route one day Kyle of lochalsh and the Skye bridge Then the ferry to mallaig got there just before the Jacobite steam train arrived but we needed to get to our nights lodge in oban wanted to grab a pic of Glenfinnan viaduct but the road to it was closed, got a poor shot from the Glenfinnan monument car park though, just as I walked back to the car a train went over so grabbed another poor shot! into fort William and back out to oban, from ballachulish the road follows the railway line back to Connell via the Connell bridge oban to Kilbride tomorrow

Theo C. Cupier
Nice pics, Jim. One thing puzzled me, as I have driven the A835 many a time on the way to Ullapool for the ferry, and I couldn't recall a rock shelter on that route. I think you may mean this one on the A890 between Attadale and Stromeferry. Excellent pics anyway, enjoyed seeing the scenery and looking forward to a trip to Lossiemouth the week after next. Hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Scotland. Edited August 27, 2020 by Theo C. Cupier Capitalisation and speeling. :-)

RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted September 11, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 11, 2020 Just one from today, the sad sight of grand central class 90 and DVT that we’re going to be used on a new london to Blackpool service that unfortunately was pulled by Arriva this week at the very last minute siting Covid as the major cause of the cancellation would have been nice to have seen hammering up and down the WCML 21 2 3

surfsup
3 hours ago, Railfreight1998 said: Hired from DB I think. Correct, all the 90s for the GC operation were coming from the DB pool (As DB owns Arriva who own GC) - This also meant that a number of stored 90s were being re-instated at Crewe for both GC and DB operations, though that may have been thrown into doubt now with the plug pulled on the GC Blackpool services. All the ex Greater Anglia 90s have been divided between LSL (90001/002) and Freightliner. 1
Swifty11
90026 was one of the two longer stored examples reactivated for the service, the other being 90021 which isn't far from completion. A real shame it didn't make it off the ground.
