RMweb Premium Chris116 Posted January 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 25, 2020 I know you have a lot of work coupling and changing ends that means you are not in the cab a lot of the time but how good are the heaters in the cabs and how bad are the drafts in the cab?
RMweb Gold big jim Posted January 26, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 26, 2020 The heaters are alright but noisy, however ergonomically they are useless as they are set for right hand drive so you have to lean forward from the seat over to the 2nd mans side to operate them a lot of our 66s have air con now which is great in the summer and surprisingly effective in other news my photobucket account has been restored so all the early pictures I uploaded to use in all my threads have now reappeared (the most recent pics have been uploaded via the forum uploaded which I’ll continue to use anyway) 4 1
RMweb Gold big jim Posted January 27, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 27, 2020 Just 2 poor pics from last night Wellington station in darkness at 4am! we (marcus37 and myself) then headed off down the branch to collect a load of wagons from Donnington Railfreight terminal, Marcus came with me as I need to sign the branch off for working further trains out of there, a nice simple line, effectively a long siding and a surprisingly large terminal at the end! ready to depart, again in darkness, took it to shrewsbury and home trafford park tonight but thankfully only from crewe at 21:30 15
RMweb Gold big jim Posted January 27, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 27, 2020 Hot news...... GBRf will be running it’s monster 4 day charity rail tour again this year raising money to fight prostate cancer a launch video has been put on line and further details will be released over the next few weeks as things are finalised https://www.gbrfcharityrailtours.co.uk/news
RMweb Premium DRS Crewe On A Mission Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 27, 2020 Thank you very much for sharing Jim. This is brilliant news and for a very worthy cause. It's such a coincidence that this has been announced today because I read earlier that their are now more people who are diagnosed with prostate cancer than people who are diagnosed with breast cancer. All cases of cancer are truly heart breaking but it's good that for this tour GBRf are focusing on men, prostate cancer and raising money for the cause. That video is encouraging me to buy more GBRf locos. Can I afford them? No, 2020 is already a really expensive year for model railways. Do I want some more GBRf locos? Yes. Will I buy them? Probably. That's really how easy it is for me to give in and start spending money on models. I will be skint throughout this year at this rate. Anyway, less about models. Well done GBRf! When do you find out Jim if you will be rostered for any of the tour workings?

Havent been on a rail tour for over 25 years, but I so want to go on at least a part of that trip. To see companies in this day and age make a positive difference to people lives is a rarity and deserves our support. Blessings. RMweb Gold big jim Posted January 27, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 27, 2020 As soon as info becomes available then I’ll post up in here im of course going to volunteer to help crew it, I’ve got my class 1 loco hauled ticket and a nice varied route card with some ‘unusual’ places on it as well as a good traction card so here’s hoping I get something (if anyone from GBRf planning is reading this a nice trip to Aberystwyth with a 97 would be nice or a trundle down the heart of wales!) 8

Hope that you get to drive for some of the tour Jim. I'm hoping that the pair of GBRf 50s are used on some of the tour. Can't wait for Hornby to release them both in OO Gauge later this year. Yes, please keep us updated on further details of the tour and hopefully details of what part of the tour they have allocated to you.
RMweb Gold big jim Posted January 28, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 28, 2020 (edited) Just a few from last night, loco swap from 66777 to 66720 in its celeb cartoon livery scary to think that the girl who designed the livery for the competition is now 16 years old! there was a competition in the last GBRF staff magazine asking for kids to design a new livery, I gave mine the templates but they couldn’t be bothered doing anything as it didn’t involve staring at a screen so I gave up asking same again tonight but only to trafford park Edited January 28, 2020 by big jim

That's interesting, I thought that terminal was in a state of "theoretically open but never actually saw any trains", but evidently not! Is it a recent thing, or has it been in use for ages? Locally it has a reputation for having been built because the line was there anyway, not because there was any actual need for it...
rob D2
IIRc it’s been busier for MOD since GBRF took over , it’s also had DB trains of stone in, as well as Carrics for repair, and freighliner stone out ... im sure Jim will be along soon with better gen

I thought odd balls died out when we grew up, you mean there’s a whole new generation behind us ? I mean I thought it odd seeing nameplate kissing back in the 90’s, surely there isn’t pacer lickers today ? RMweb Gold big jim Posted January 31, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 31, 2020 Loco swap last night and a bit of chaos! met the train in crewe, was supposed to be Manchester but to save a drive I arranged to get on at basford hall DRS 68s with a single PFA with an unusual load my train with 66774 this time And off to Manchester I went only to get stuck outside Trafford park for 90 minutes due to a track circuit failure caused by the freightliner service in front of me, it actually caused all the passenger services to be cancelled or diverted too! despite being late the train left only 20 mins late from Manchester and I was back on time in nuneaton back on it tonight, last night of it this week then a possession on Saturday night
