lmsforever
Well done Jim good to see a pic of you and surprised to see how basic the cab is in a class 60 looks a bit retro and designed on the cheap but it works I suppose.

JohnH
Because they couldn’t unload them again! Crikey! So they send the logs from Carlisle down to Chirk and then back again to Carlisle...? Must be one for the 'prototype for everything thread' Suppose it makes it easy when modelling the trains when you can run them loaded with logs both ways without having to remove the loads in the fiddle yard

RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted July 2, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 2, 2018 Some from the weekend, Saturday night was a ballast drop between Wigan and coppull Basford hall 56105 on another train that went off to wem While I had 60047 again! The end of the possession found me below the wild fires that are burning on winter hill, taken Just at sunrise Then relief turned up and I headed off to carlsile with the van And that was that, drove home in the afternoon from the caravan, came back via the dales as I did the other week so show the family ribblehead etc and the desolation going over the mountains Got home just in time for last nights job, 60047 again, crewe to carlisle light engine for the logs later today Basford hall Had a cracking run, after leaving the siding at crewe the next stop was to change the points to get into the wood yard in Kingmoor! And onto the train In all I’ve driven the best part of 600 miles since Saturday night, off today then just for a change 60047 on the logs Tuesday!

Keith Yeah I spotted it on iplayer, I suspect it was filmed the day before as the drs train in front of mine was 2 x 66 yesterday and the one on the clip had a single loco, also I noticed the 2nd mans windows was shut on the 60 as it passed through, I had mine open yesterday while I was on it Edited July 4, 2018 by big jim
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted July 7, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 7, 2018 (edited) Some from last night, crewe to derby via Stockport and the hope valley and Sheffield (maiden voyage over it) 37099 leading out of crewe Stockport 97301 lead up to chinley were I turned back to hazel grove before turnin back again to retrace my steps to chinley and onward to Sheffield, as I say first trip over the hope valley, remembered everything I needed to such as the speed changes, it’s pretty much 75 all the way for locos, sprinters can go quicker but have a lot more variable speeds to remember, it was a nice run the sun was just coming up as I went through Edale so I could make out the mountains etc, it was getting pretty light by the time I got to Sheffield at 03:45 Hazel grove Sheffield And into derby The good thing about having the hope valley line now means any loco moves carlisle to Toton can go wcml to either chat moss and through Manchester and Stockport to dore and down the Erewash or Hartford, northernden, hazel grove to dore save going all the way down to crewe and across the north staffs Edited July 7, 2018 by big jim

KeithHC
Quick question Jim from a non railway person. Do you keep your traction and route knowledge when you change companies or do you have to be refreshed. Thanks Keith
RMweb Gold big jim Posted July 9, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 9, 2018 (edited) I will keep what I have in date and anything out of date will only need a refresh, luckily Colas has one of the best route retention systems I’ve come across, fully electronic so can pin point to the day when I go out of date on a route (as long as I remember to use the app, which I always do) When I switch to GBRf the routes will transfer across but over time some will disappear as there will be no need for them and others will be added as I learn new places, I’m going to try and keep some of the more obscure diversions on my card such as sandbach to Middlewich and northernden to hazel grove as they were a pain to get on in the first place and handy to keep now they are on there Traction wise I believe I will be doing class 20s which I’ve done in the past with Drs (funnily enough I found my certificate last week) and the class 59 but of course I will most likely lose the likes of class 56, 67 and 70 over time, and of course my beloved NMT will be no more, but at least I get to keep 60s Edited July 9, 2018 by big jim
RMweb Gold big jim Posted July 10, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 10, 2018 Just a few from last night, logs warrington to chirk and back to crewe 60021 waiting to back the final few hundred meters into kronospan, I stop there to clear the track circuits to give the ground frame back before getting back on board to set back further 35 late at shrewsbury where the signaller put a late running GBRf across the front of me towards Wolverhampton I held back so didn’t catch him so was 47 late at bushbury jn and somehow made up 37 mins by the time I got to crewe so it was only 10 late, as I type this it’s near as dammit on time past warrington! Crewe And off it went (still from a video) And the video https://youtu.be/cXtpiTYEhn4 On a Yellow train later today to Stratford upon Avon amongst other places
