RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted May 22, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 22, 2018 I wondered if they would call you out on Saturday morning when a passenger train failed somewhere on the HoW Line. Jonathan
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted May 23, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 23, 2018 They could try, I won’t be up! Anyway some from this morning, same job as the night before but we made it to llandridnod this time Basford hall last night And back this morning, bit gutted as I should have been on a job out of Toton which had a DB 60 on it! As it needed to get back to Toton and the 37s I had needed to get back to derby they we lashed them together for the trip over 97s still there too!
RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 24, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 24, 2018 Last night was the stone train from hereford to derby (where it went onward to Leeds) Hereford My train arriving And away to derby, left hereford an hour late but got to shrewsbury on time by not stopping in wooferton only to find the late running timber train being put out in front of me at abbey forgate which knocked me for another 10 mins which I’d made back by Wolverhampton Derby Timber train tonight but I’m hoping it’s cancelled
jonas
Great photos as ever Jim. Where does the stone train originate from? That’s not a flow I realised went through Hereford.
RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 24, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 24, 2018 i think its neath abbey wharf, its a sporadic flow as sometimes it goes to washwood heath of course there is major engineering work arounf newport which may affect the routing, tonight for example ive got the baglan logs which normally comes via heareford but im getting on at kidderminster and going via galton jn, soho, perry barr, wolverhampton, stafford and crewe!

ess1uk
Some from last night before I go to bed! Change of plan, should have been down the cambrian but ended up on the heart of wales line Interesting sunset over ‘poppy’ And away to the heart of wales, did something I’ve never done before, a ballast drop under TW1 which basically means there is no possession and the train runs under normal working arrangements, I have the token as normal which obviously prevents other movements in that section Knighton We dropped in a few places, finishing on llangynllo bank and heading back from there, Knighton again on the return Craven arms And back into Basford hall, locos stabled with the 97s 90050 looking worse for wear Which appears to have been joined by 86251 in the last few days And that’s that, should be back down the HOW tonight, or possibly a train out of Toton Some interesting signalling there. Reed tokens. The bobby told me about it when we were taking it off leased BT private lines Edited May 27, 2018 by ess1uk

RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 28, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 28, 2018 Some from Monday, logs carlisle to warrington, had it fuel the loco too Kingmoor 88 passing by M My loco away for fuel at DRS 7 freightliner 66s passing Then off I went via a glorious S+C, first stop unfortunatly right at the bottom of whalley bank, thankfully it was dry! And into warrington before heading back north Same again today
RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 29, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 29, 2018 (edited) Only one pic today but something a bit different to add 60021 again Today I set my GPS tracker running leaving carlisle caldew jn and recorded my track to hellifield, the route learning app uses similar technology but is railway based, the app I used is motion-xGPS which records (and shows) elevation, speed etc (I slipped over the 60mph max once!) Carlisle to hellifield on the map Vital statistics, time, distance, speed, elevation, ascent and decent etc First plot, carlisle caldew bridge at 00:00 climbing on to the S+C, the long drag begins at 00:50 but as you can see it climbs pretty much all the way from carlisle The long drag between 00:50 and 01:20 so 30 mins slog, was down to 24mph at the start at 514ft And at the top at ais gill, managed 44mph over the top which recorded as 1184ft (672ft climb at 4% in 30mins) From there is was pretty much down hill after dent, the dotted line was where I lost signal in Blea Moor tunnel, the 489ft, 55.8mph was passing through settle The other up and down speeds between 01:20 and 01:40 were where I went into various tunnels and lost signal for a short while (less than a minute) and it averaged out the speed Edited May 29, 2018 by big jim
Jack374
Very interesting telemetry Jim, I don't think I've seen anyone else do that before and it shows the gradients well. I saw you today at Balshaw Lane Jn...cheers for the tone! I wasn't sure if I'd make it otherwise I'd have said I'd be there, but luckily you were held in the station for a bit to allow a London-bound express to pass. And a short video because my camera decided it didn't have any juice left: https://youtu.be/Ksn31qFeQ2Q Thanks, Jack.
