RMweb Gold big jim Posted November 5, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 5, 2017 And some from today, conducting the RHTT from Hereford to shrewsbury Hst arrived in from Paddington Amazing how much it overhangs the back of the platform, only just inside the insulated block! It did however then shunt out and over to the up side to hear back to london RHTT set arrived and off we went to shrewsbury Where I got off and someone else took it back to Hereford (forum member 21Alizard was with me too) And off it went And Home I went on a full and standing 2 car 175

RMweb Premium JDW Posted November 7, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 7, 2017 There's probably an obvious answer, but assuming the HST in the first two pics above is the same one, why is it stopped so far back? There looks to be room for it to have stopped much further forward, with the rear power car on the platform?
RMweb Gold big jim Posted November 7, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 7, 2017 (edited) the south end powercar is pretty much up against the signal as its not actually on the platform end, i took the photo beyond the signal, the wood you can see on the platform (bottom left) is where the gantry comes up and over and you can just about see the bottom of the signal at the top in all fairness going by 'professional driving policy' rules its too close to the signal but its obviously got to be to fit in the platform Edited November 7, 2017 by big jim
Swindon 123
There's probably an obvious answer, but assuming the HST in the first two pics above is the same one, why is it stopped so far back? There looks to be room for it to have stopped much further forward, with the rear power car on the platform? A HST will not fit the island platform (platform 1) at Hereford with all the train, including the power cars on the platform. It only just clears the track circuit and has been like that since they first started running to Hereford. The GW drivers have to be pretty precise in there positioning, or else it can lock up the frame in the box. When we used to run the loco and coaches, we always ran into platform 2 so as to be able to run round the train using platform 1, it being the only signalled way to do it. You had to run past the signal with the loco to get the back end in clear, but not too far so as to foul the next track circuit with the coaches and lock up the frame. We managed to lock up the frame doing just that during the Hereford Open Day in 1991, and had a hell of a job thinking how to unlock it. Paul J. RMweb Gold big jim Posted November 16, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 16, 2017 Too many!! Never really thought about it but next week, should be 5 nights of the logs is 700 miles Some from the other day, the outage yesterday meant I didn’t have a chance to upload Crewe, TPE class 68 training run Down to shrewsbury where I had to wait for my train to arrive on the avoider so grabbed some pics from an unusual (and safe) area Panorama Point rodding More point rodding Cambrian bound 158 153 off the heart of Wales Birmingham bound 158 Then my train arrived And away to Washwood Heath with 1700 tons of stone to make sleepers Wolverhampton Waiting outside cemex Then after a few problems, departed 1 1/2 late to Landor st here I got off And that was that, tonight’s train is currently running late too so a drive over to derby instead of relieving it in crewe station ensues!

RMweb Gold big jim Posted November 17, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2017 Just 3 from last night, problems with the train meant a transit run derby to crewe, the line was shut west of derby so it was via Leicester, nuneaton and the wcml Derby And back in crewe I hitched a ride on this from the sidings to the station, it’s been a long time since I’ve driven this particular loco with chiltern!

RMweb Gold big jim Posted November 20, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 20, 2017 (edited) And from tonight, 73s to bidston Got on at altrincham then followed the stopper to Mobberley where I got a pic Over to wrexham and down to bidston Had to wait at hawarden bridge for the steel train in front to reach wrexham before we could set off, annoyingly that left 45 early and we were 30 late so we got to dee Marsh just as he pulled out of the yard so we sat here for 30 mins! We then did wrexham central and back to Chester, I was having a minor paddy at wrexham so never took any pics of the train in central station! And back to Chester That’s that, logs tomorrow!
