RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 9, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) Nowt special yesterday, medical in romiley near Stockport, decided to go by train Bendy bus from Piccadilly out via guide bride Old signal box at the jn, left to Piccadilly via brinnington and right via Hyde and guide bridge, there are a right mush mash of lines over this side of Manchester/Stockport And a 150 back via brinnington I didn't get any pics of the station building at romiley but it sure is an impressive structure, don't know it's company origins but I've never seen a station like it before, 2 flights of steps up to the Manchester platform, floor 1 takes you to the underpass to the Sheffield bound platform, certainly a prototype for everything station Edit: wiki link https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romiley_railway_station Edited May 9, 2017 by big jim
RMweb Premium ColinK Posted May 9, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 9, 2017 Shame ypu weren't in Romiley on Wednesday, as you would have been welcome to pop into the model railway club for a brew. Its only 200 metres from the station.
RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 9, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 9, 2017 Some from earlier, popped out to fott the 88 on the northern belle, went down to LNWR for a different viewpoint away from the public! And the 88 68 on the rear And that was that, back to the station in a bit to get my train, too and tail 73s round Cheshire then drive off to westbury!
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted May 11, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 11, 2017 couple of days of pics 73s round cheshire biomass near northwich chester and off at warrington and down to westbury the day after for 67s to weymouth 159 in westbury 66s and away to weymouth, stopped at mayden newton to let a unit pass into weymouth back to maiden newton to let another unit pass before we could get the token to veovil pen mill chinnok station building, listed as its a fine example of brunel rural station architecture unit arriving in the bridgehole to the left used to be the branch to bridport and west bay, according to the info plaque on the station there used to be a gravity siding for trains coming in from the branch, the train would come in, propel into the siding, detatch the loco and move out of the way before the coaches were left to drop back by gravity into the platform under control of the guard before the loco reattached to the outbound train another helicopter into bristol east yard back to westbury but this time onto a chord avoiding the station from the trowbridge direction and out onto the avoider to change ends the white horse and that was that
alibuchan
Another cracking set of photos Jim. 66740 gets about a bit. I grabbed a photo of it coming through Oxford Parkway yesterday morning on a Bicester to Marchwood MOD trip. Hands down, one of the best threads on here. RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted May 11, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 11, 2017 Other helicopter is a lynx It's not, it's a wildcat as already mentioned. Boxy tail structure and upwards pointing exhausts for infrared suppression!

RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted May 12, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 12, 2017 I took your photo of the Pendolino of 9 May to model railway club last night to ask how to model the siding in the foreground! I assume that some of the effect is caused by your long lens, but what attracted comment was that the rails are far more shiny than one would expect of a siding which from its state one would expect to be little used. Or is it a refuge loop? Still interesting track. Jonathan
RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 12, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 12, 2017 thats the through siding at LNWR, 5mph track and used all day every day by stuff coming into and out of the carriage sidings, probably 20+ units a day over it, 150s, 158, 350, voyager, 67s and wag, test trains etc
RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted May 12, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 12, 2017 Thanks for the response. I'm glad to hear the limit is 5 mph. I hope not too much falls off. Jonathan

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted May 13, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 13, 2017 Seems you Conductor Driver misled you a bit Jim - the Bristol pictures are at East Depot where your train is standing on the Down Goods Line while those at the bottom are on the Up Westbury Line adjacent to the former cement works connection at Heywood Road and very definitely not on the Westbury Avoiding Line (where there is no crossover or signalling to facilitate reversal). In fact if you had turned left after reversing at that spot you would only then have been going towards the Down Westbury Avoiding Line. The line you went over from Hawkeridge Jcn to what is nowadays called Westbury East Loop Junction is nowadays called East Loop although I think the proper full name is still Westbury East Loop. RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 13, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 13, 2017 (edited) I use the term avoiding line in the loose sense, as in I personally avoided Westbury! i wouldn't say he misled me as he knew where we were, as did i track layout wise but when I come to relay the info on here i just put what sounds about right, I don't take notes for my pics And yes east depot not yard for Bristol Edited May 13, 2017 by big jim
D854_Tiger
A lovely railway, that line to Weymouth, I'm guessing not quite the S&D but not far off. I first experienced it back in the 1970s on a glorious mid-summer day. I had selected the through train from Cardiif because i knew it was one of the few loco-hauled (class 47) services. It was but for some reason the class 47 was removed at Westbury, as I lent out of the droplight in the compartment, I had sole-occupancy of (all the way), I heard a familiar noise I dared not to hope was for our train. Needless to say a filthy Western (why did they always seem that way) was backing down onto our train, oh deep joy, glorious weather, glorious scenery and the perfect soundtrack to go with it. By then, only a handful of Westerns survived, mostly concentrated around Westbury, and not normally used on passengers trains so it was a bit of a result.

Brilliant photo! I have been waiting to see a photo of 608 and 611 since they have been repainted into Europhoenix livery. They look fantastic and the livery suits them really well.
