Powerhaul 70 Pey
Hello everyone here is a link to a poor quality video I did on my camera as it was way too dark for photographs of a loco at a fair speed. Its not often we get to see Colas Rail class 70's in the North-West so It was worth the short evening trip out to Euxton Balshaw Lane station. Many thanks to everyone for the info and thank you Jim for your info and discreet tone of the horn as you passed! What goes up must come down, hopefully back down the WCML and in daylight hours hopefully over the bank holiday but probably not. https://www.flickr.com/photos/143455329@N02/with/34267254066/ Edited April 27, 2017 by Powerhaul 70 Pey

Why do they require a class 70 up this end of the country? Here are my photos...I went to Preston and only just made it in time. Luckily it was held for literally no more than a couple of minutes, allowing for some relatively sharp photos and a very brief chat with Jim! And a shot I didn't intend to take, of Jim leaping off the loco, although he appears to be doing step-ups... Finally, a video of the loco departing... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fePlR7L4NA0 It was great to finally meet with Jim, in what was a very brief yet unexpected encounter! Thanks, Jack. RMweb Gold big jim Posted April 27, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 27, 2017 i must admit i thought id have been held there longer as the barrow service was due to leave 4 minutes after i arrived but he pulled off for me 2 minutes before that trains departure time, to be honest he wouldnt catch me as i can do 75mph between preston and lancaster and he was also 75 max, the 2 minute headstart i had would have had him on greens all the way i recon as it happened after leaving preston i was non stop to harrisons sidings (north of shap) where he had me in for about 5 mins to let a 325 past then straight out non stop to carlisle, and after a cracking run to there i had to sit outside kingmoor yard for 45 mins before i could be accepted, by the time i got the loco stabled and secured it had taken me the best part of 1 1/2 hours from carlisle station to the log yard, (the same time it took to do crewe to carnforth!) some pics 6V46 passing through walsall my loco preston carlisle kingmoor, heading towards the log yard yesterdays train in the distance with 60087 up front and all shut down and away to the hotel for the night

RMweb Gold big jim Posted April 29, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 29, 2017 (edited) Some from today, shunt in Derby A new 37 for me this morning, 409 "lord Hinton" which I had to put on Caroline, I've got the model rail ltd Ed of this loco so it's nice to finally get to have a quick go of it A fine selection of different nose ends on various 37s Our merl After the shunt I planned to go to carlisle for a long weekend in the caravan, I set off from derby for crewe in the van to get the train up only to discover in the edge of derby that the wcml is shut today and it would have been a bus from crewe to carlisle! A quick About turn and back to derby station to get a train via Leeds and the s+c Some from Leeds 158753, the first train I drove in my own after passing out for driving, was in fnw livery back then though Various units And my train to carlisle (158 on the rear) I rode with the driver using my northern cab pass so I could have a look over the s+c as I need to try and finally get it learnt for the log train when it restarts working via hellifield, never done Leeds to hellifield before, nice little run Only one pic from carlisle Then another train to wigton and off to the van for a relaxing weekend, need It after 5 hours on the train from derby to Wigton! I am a bit gutted I missed them as I thought they were moving at night but I read they had an earlier container path from the docks but at that point it was too late, you were at Winwick Junction by then.
