RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted February 8, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 8, 2017 Today I was reunited with an old friend, 67014, not driven it since chiltern days and low and behold it's now my traction refresh loco for when we get our 67s at colas, also spookily enough it's also the same loco I passed out on at chiltern (Marcus37 was my instructor on them back then!) Got a handling run with it tomorrow to crewe and back via the wcml

D854_Tiger
Jim. I notice with so many of your COLAS workings heading from Derby to Crewe that a routing via the WCML is preferred, using the Lichfield Trent Valley high level to low level curve. When, of course, there is a more obvious and less busy route available via Uttoxeter. Is there any specific reason for this. Jim. RMweb Premium newbryford Posted February 9, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 9, 2017 Interesting formation for your handling runs today.... https://www.flickr.com/photos/motorsportevents/32649688422/in/photolist-RJktka-RzBZ2h-RK9bSs-QJKxo2-QxgpVZ-Rxvz7N-Quxjzf Now where did I put those other DVTs? Cheers, Mick
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted February 9, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2017 The route via alrewas is quicker a lot of the time but reasons may be that the boxes aren't open on the north staffs until 06:30 and they shut around 22:30 or as we had today the train may contain vehicles that are prohibited through mere tunnel as there is a kink in the tunnel lining in the derby direction, class 70 and dvt for example can go Stenson to stoke but not the other way! Anyway off out now to the theatre but will post some pics later when I get back, here is a taster though
jamesg
Hi Jim, Out of interest (and sorry if it's a daft question), what's the yellow lock on the rail in front of 67014? Does it protect a main line from trains leaving the siding, or does it prevent movements within the depot? Do you know if any of the new Network Rail DVTs are in use yet? I've only seen the DBSOs near me. Thanks.
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted February 9, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2017 It's depot protection, stops movements outside the 'apron' going into the shed Anyway, some from today, as we were prepping the train this came in And after they deposited 37558 the 2 37s headed back out, closely followed by another pair Then we moved over to the departure road And into derby station And away to crewe And back to derby, I got off at Stafford though And a royal 67 passing through And that was that, I'm now refreshed on class 67s

acko22
Anyone else think the DB logos just stuck on the Royal class 67s look tacky? I would say cheap but that's because they are, would have thought they would have put some effort in with some more fitting DB logos on then bit like EWS had on there!! RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted February 11, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 11, 2017 Some from last night, got asked to do an extra run crewe to Lichfield and record back at 30mph, thebaouthbound run a transit so could go 75mph, fast all the way, I love taking queensville curve at linespeed, doesn't happen very often though Had 37612 one end And 37608 the other Changing ends at Lichfield for the trundle back to crewe After that it was over tonderby then to Doncaster in a cab before working another UTU back to derby, DBSO this time though so nice and quiet and warm! And that was that, railvac to Chester tonight

RMweb Gold big jim Posted February 13, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 13, 2017 It's not a bad pic for a camera phone that one, I really should remember to take my proper camera out with me more but it's always difficult on ballast/ site jobs to get pics, tend to get more on the IM turns with change ends in platforms etc I only took one iphone pic tonight, again Basford hall but this time a class 90 on a liner train
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted February 14, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 14, 2017 Some from tonight before I go to bed, derby to South Ruislip with a UTU, 37116 leading Ready to depart Derby And into Ruislip having recorded the chiltern line at 30mph from aynho jn And once my relief arrived it was off to the hotel, lovely view from the window!! The train isn't due to leave until 05:00 so I can hear it ticking over outside as I type this!
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted February 14, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 14, 2017 i remembered my proper camera last night too this morning after a sleep i caught the train from south ruislip, took the opportunity to do the chiltern service to paddington, used it as a refresh to old oak common as i rode with the driver, its amazing how much the line has changed beyond there in the last month or so, glad i dont sign it! the service goes into the depths of paddington, platform 14 from there to euston and home via the WCMl yet another unusual unit in an unusual place, this time a FGW 387 in crewe and that was that, class 67 move tomorrow (not an orange and yellow one though unfortunatly)
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted February 15, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 15, 2017 nice little job today, class 67 move, should have bene toton to derby but the loco was on the electric depot in crewe (1/2 mile from home) so that saved me a van drive 67008 this time, actually the first EWS livery 67 ive ever driven! ready for the off signal check at kidsgrove into derby and onto its train 97 on the rear this time
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted February 17, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 17, 2017 Last night was a banbury to Marylebone and back to bescot job, top and tail 70s, first One's ever into Marylebone Banbury, 70809 leading Into the wall sidings in Marylebone, that was the longest signal bay but he train was still too long to fit so I had to start in advance of the signal when I changed ends Worked it back to Neasden where the possession was put around my train and we then dropped the rail, once done the shunter checked the train over while I grabbed a couple of pics Then it was back to bescot to stable Locos off the train then home for a good sleep!
