37219 and Test set at Peterborough this morning, DBSO 9702 leading. Disappeared off towards March. Tried a couple of pictures but they are really indifferent, not sure the one reasonable one is worth posting, one DBSO looks much like another.

Don't let newbryford hear you say that!

From memory (need to update my photo collection......)

3 distinct variants across the 5 in the NwR fleet.

9701- generator fitted

9702/3 not generator fitted

9708/9714 - generator fitted and carrying loads of extra gear on the cab end.

Cheers,

Mick

Just come past a Colas 37 and test set/DBSO at BRI. My neighbour chose that moment to jump up out of her seat so view obscured but it looked like 219. Do they get about that much? (Excuse my ignorance, just a casual but regular visitor to this thread).

It looks like you saw 37219 with DBSO 9702 working 3Q65 March to Colchester test train.

The Colas Rail Class 37s are becoming more common on test train duties because DRS Class 37s which used to work the majority of test trains are either not been used on test trains anymore or are been sold on.

I think Colas must have some of the contract, although 68's are more common now on test trains ?

Just a post of note,

Colas' 56096 had a test train jolly last night and this morning, assisting 37025 on 3Q79 Dundee - Mossend DY and 3Z79 Mossend DY - Carlisle. Believe this is only the second time a 56 has done a test train.

From what I know I think that Colas have always had the contract but they have used DRS Class 37s. Colas drivers have been driving DRS Class 37s I think. Colas are overhauling and refurbishing their own locos (Class 37s) and repainting them in their own livery. Colas are also leasing 37608 and 37611 from Europhenix on a long term basis because DRS have sold them. DRS Class 68s are used to replace the high speed measurement train when the Class 43s are having repairs and maintenance I think.

Jim, Colas have 0Z88 Llanelli-Llandrindod vv TuWeTh next week (no clues in RTT as to how they get to/from Llanelli). Given that Colas track machines are normally 6Jnn this presumably is a real loco on Heart of Wales line. Would you have any idea what's going on pls?

Actually 0Z88 might morph into 6J80.  This ran STJ-Llanelli this morning and would be DR73912 though the headcode TuWeTh is still showing as 0Z88.  6J80 has disappeared from signalling diagrams, so I suspect it's parked in the compound to the right of this RHTT set heading east out of Llanelli
